Just booked Ireland!!!
I AM SOOOO EXCITED!!!
This is my dream! I have wanted to go for so long!! we're going early September.
I booked the air with AerLingus and they had 2 seats left going in Business Class for not much more than Coach, so I booked it - it will be a surprise for DH going there, coming back will be Coach - too much $$ to upgrade.
The entire trip is us just getting in a car and driving, I got a car/B&B package with one night at a castle from discoverireland...planning on mostly the west coast - 9 days.
OMG, I can't believe I am really going! Now I have to start planning out the drive, excursions and stopping in New Market to meet extended family we've never met before!

I'm excited FOR you! When I went, I didn't want to leave. It's such an amazing place.....the people, the sights...simply divine.
Are you going to do the drive around the Ring of Kerry? It's gorgeous....a little scary at times, as the roads can be very narrow and steep cliffs, but one of the best things I ever did in my life.
- pic I found on google of Ring of Kerry.
Aer Lingus is awesome, too! We had TVs for the flight and the stewardesses were so dainty and dressed in cute green outfits..most had Irish accents.
You have to tell us what you thought of it!

Defintely doing the Ring of Kerry!! Intention is to stay mostly on the west coast - we already have a reservation at the Adare Castle for one night, I am SOOO excited, it is beautiful. I told DH I don't know how he's going to get me home at the end of the trip, because I know I'm going to love it.
For those who have been there - casual clothes, right?

Re: Just booked Ireland!!!
Yeah, casual clothes but if you want to head somewhere fancy, you can easily dress up, too. But of course, comfort is key when traveling!
From what I saw in Dublin & Wicklow, women dress nicely but didn't seem to be showing of the goods, if that makes sense? They don't seem to dress like some women do here in America, from what I saw.
I wore a lot of cardigans and tanks with jeans and knee-high boots. I seemed to fit right in. I went in October and it was pretty mild and just a bit chilly & didn't rain at all really, which I was shocked over.
It may sound silly, but I picked up a few knitted hats to wear, as those seem to be big over there. When in Rome....
Their vehicles over there are so small. I don't remember seeing SUVs, just tons of tiny little cars. We had rented a Nissan Micra and it was so tiny

Re: Just booked Ireland!!!
DH and I just went in April. We rented a car and literally had the "Dooley" map and chose our destinations the night before! We had hotel in dublin, two nights B&B in Kerry, 2 nights B&B in Galway and then 1 night back to Dublin. You're going to love it! Any questions just ask!

Re: Just booked Ireland!!!
Did you book through a pkg or did you just pick and choose. I'm trying to do an Ireland vacation for DH's bday at the end of Sept/early Oct and I've been waiting on the right deal

Re: Just booked Ireland!!!
I didn't do a package. I looked up tour itineraries to figure out an itinerary and just used tripadvisor to find B&Bs. If you need any help let me know. I planned out the whole thing myself, it was actually kind of fun!

I did a deal for the B&B's, a night at the castle and the car- it was a great deal! If you want my friend's #, just message me.
I did better with the air on my own.

Re: Just booked Ireland!!!
We booked a package through aerlingus.com came with airfare, car rental and 6 nights. But like a PP I booked the B&Bs according to tripadvisor recs, etc. We knew we wanted to spend a certain amount of time in each city and surrounding towns but didn't really have a set itinerary or set route per say until the day before! It was great!

Re: Just booked Ireland!!!
Ahh jealous! I think DH and decided our next trip will be to Ireland. If we can swing it financially, we want to fly my parents over with us, as my Dad is big into our Irish heritage but sadly, has never been there.
Can't wait to hear about everyone's trips and see pictures! I hope you all have wonderful trips!

Re: Just booked Ireland!!!
You are going to enjoy it. Don't forget the Cliffs of Moher in Clare it is breathtaking. Be sure to pack warm clothes that you can layer. They have had a horrible summer so hopefully the weather will improve.
Also you can take a ferry from Clare to Kerry it is a beautiful ride.
Enjoy your trip!

Re: Just booked Ireland!!!
Anyone know anything about the ring of kerry?? We are driving from Dingle to Kenmare and want to drive some of the ring. I don't know if we should take the route clockwise through Kilarney National Park or counter clockwise down the coast??

My brother went last year and said it it was good to go counter clockwise - less traffic.
