Jury Duty in Queens
I was just called. Has anyone done it yet? What happens with the phone standby system? Any other things I need to know?

Re: Jury Duty in Queens
You call in everyday the night before and see if your number is called. I got lucky and wasn't called, so I don't know anything more.

Re: Jury Duty in Queens
I actually had to call in 2 or 3 weeks ago for a week straight and never had to go in. What's your juror number? Mine was toward the end 5,000 and something so the further back you are, the less likely you are to be called to go in. But you still have to call everyday after 5:00 PM regardless.
ETA: I have served in Queens in the past. It was pretty standard and simple. You wait in the big room until/if they call your juror number. Once your number is called they bring you to another room where your group is asked a series of questions to see if you qualify to hear the case. If you qualify, you're given further instructions (when to show up, etc.). If you don't qualify, you are either sent home or back to the big room to start all over again.

Re: Jury Duty in Queens
i had it last month as everyone said you call in and see if your number is called...of course mine was called to come in that first day. I was called to the court room in kew gardens....i suggest getting there early. it called for 9am and i got there at 8:45, waited on line, passed through metal detectors etc and got literally one of the last 3 seats in the waiting room. Some people were stuck standing until 11am when they called in the first batch go get questioned in the jury box. i sat all day waiting...they are pretty strict with no cell phone use inside but you can bring a computer/ipad. you get allowed out for a 1 hour lunch. At 3:30 they dismissed all of us who were not called.

Jury Duty in Queens
Civil? I had to go to Sutphin Ave, its a pita but both parties settled and they dismissed it right before they got to me. So it was only 2 days.
