Juno....

So my sister and I saw it today....

I thought it was an adorable movie, but so not sure that it was rated properly.

It was rated PG-13, but IMO should have been an R rating... my sister agreed with me. There's LOTS of cursing, and I just think that a 15 year old dealing with a pregnancy, and the adoption of said child is just a little mature for children 13 and under.... Please don't think that I'm trying to shelter children from things that actually happen in this world, but it just seemed off for me.

Anyone else who has seen this movie have an opinion on this rating, and/or the maturity level?

I want to see it and I do agree about the rating. Between little Jamie Lynn and this movie, I'm just hoping that teenage pregnancy isn't a new trend, you know?

Re: Juno....

I loved this movie but agree with you on the rating. There were soooooo many young (early teens) kids in the theatre when we saw it. I even mentioned it to DH also.

I totally know what you mean!

We were sitting in front of a mom with her 2 teenage kids who were right around the age of 13, and I couldn't bring myself to look at her when we left.... I wonder how she felt about bringing her kids to see it....

I personally would have been p is sed off at the ratings association!

Re: Juno....

I think PG-13 was fine. Trust me, 13 year olds know more than you think ;)

Also, I don't think it glamorized teenage pregnancy at all. It had a girl deal with it the best way she good, with parents who realized she was an idiot, but supported her the best way they could.

I thought it was fantastic.

I am actually listening to the soundtrack right now. Amazing.

Re: Juno....

I don't think it needed a R rating. It wasn't that bad. I don't remember a lot of cursing. I mean, to be rated the same as say Knocked up or Superbad, no way near the same. Plus, I don't think teens are seeing that movie, and saying "Hey pregnancy looks fun". Thirteen year olds are smarter then that. She wasn't very happy in the movie, and they showed you pretty well the affects of teenage pregnancy and adoption.
I loved the movie!!!

I really liked the movie but I have to agree it shouldn't have been PG-13. I know kids know a LOT more than I think, but it's partially because of TV and the fact that we consider this PG-13!! If i had a daughter I wouldn't want her to see this movie just yet at 13.

I don't think you can judge it unless you've seen it.

I think the rating was fine. It was pretty clear that it was about teenage pregnancy, so a parent could make their own decision.

I might not recommend it for a 13 year old, but it depends on the child. I think it is fine for most 15 year olds & that parents of 13-15 year olds just need to use their own discretion.

Re: Juno....

That's why it's "PG-13" Parental guidance. There has to be some responsibility on the part of the parents when it comes to what their kids are watching.

But doesn't PG-13 mena for childer 13+?

I agree it's a racy topic, but I think that by the age of 13, parents should be discussing these things with their children. I actually think maybe the movie provides a great opportunity for a conversation about teen sex and pregnancy. We can't think that a 13 year old knows nothing about sex. And this isn't new- if I look back, at age 13, I was htinking of sex- not contemplating it, but I was aware that I had a sexuality.

Re: Juno....

I loved Juno! Bleeker and Jason Bateman are from my favorite show, Arrested Development. I think PG-13 is fine, some material may be unsuitable for children under 13. When I was 13 I already knew a lot of swear words. JMHO
