Jewish moms - Hanukkah

At what age did you start with the one gift per night?

Re: Jewish moms - Hanukkah

Their first hanukkah, BUT it was more like four toys and four things they needed. I.e. High chair, car seat, clothing.

Re: Jewish moms - Hanukkah

The first Hanukkah, but DH and I decided we'll each do 4 so even though DS was only 6 months it was a fun surprise to see what the other got for DS. We would put two gifts in front of him (1 from my pile and 1 from DH) and see which one he'd go to. Now they're 6 and 4 and we still do a gift s night. Nothing always huge. Some nights books, games, coloring stuff, clothes/pajamas, etc.

From his first Hanukkah. Like others said some were just little or things he needed hat, book. I usually do one big item and 7 smaller things

His first Chanukkah, but he was not yet 1 year old and didn't appreciate it. His 2nd one, he had way more than 8 gifts (b/c of family members) so he asked for a gift each night for like a month. That was fun. Chat Icon

Jewish moms - Hanukkah

We started his 1st Hanukkah (last year) but like others have said it was mostly small things...books one night, small stroller toys, etc. and one bigger gift.

dd is 2.5 and we are doing one gift per night (DS is 1.5 and he will be getting them as well even though he wont know the difference)

We decided to keep the 8 gifts at about $5 or so and give one big gift too

That's what I'm thinking. Dd1 will be 2 1/2 and she will really get it this year. Dd2 at 5 1/2 months not so much.

The first year.

I bought 4 gifts and DH bought 4 gifts, and we kept them secret So it was more like presents to each other: I got the baby a Star Wars book that DH would want to read with her; he got her cute hair bows that I wanted to dress her up in, etc.. Very small gifts, but it was fun to open them every night.

Re: Jewish moms - Hanukkah

DS was 2 months old on his first Hanukah. I don't remember what we did but we sang some Hanukah songs with him. For his second Hanukah, there were definitely 8 gifts and I think that's when my parents started the 8 gifts for him. They like to get the grandchildren a set of 8 gifts from them. It's fun when they deliver them all together & my son tries to figure out what he wants first.

This is exactly what we did for DS's 1st Hanukkah about 6 years ago. Funny I posted the same thing above. LOL!
We did it the first two years then when he was 3 he got it and I was doing most of the shopping and DH took care of some of them on amazon if I didn't find in the store.
