JERKS!

I HATE THIS FIRM!! Monday I get an email and a call about this HUGE project that needs to get done ASAP in the NJ office and they're asking for as many people to help out as much as they can over the next several weeks. So I juggle my schedule and agree to go up to the NJ offices on Monday and Tuesday, but because it's 2+ hours from my home, that means I won't see Alex either of those days. I consider that a fairly good committment to help out considering the distance and the fact that I have a child at home.

I get an email today reprimanding me and the other associate at the Philadelphia office telling us we don't take this project seriously enough and that we should be going up there everyday for the next several weeks. I'm NOT doing that. I'm not going to spend the next 2-3 weeks traveling 2 hours there and back to review some stupid documents meanwhile never seeing my daughter! Not to mention it's completely unethical to charge the the client for all those travel hours

So I think this is it - I just emailed the guy and told him I am standing by what I told him in the first place - 2 days per week MAX. I suspect I will be getting laid off very shortly AND I DON'T GIVE A DAMN!

so sorry you are dealing with this during the holidays Beth. I think you are being more than fair with 2 days a week considering how far out of the way it is for you and the fact that you are giving up seeing Alex those 2 days.

TOO many jobs/people/corporations think the job comes first when it should be the family. I would do the same thing you are doing. You want to fire me, FINE, my family comes FIRST.

Absolutely ridiculous!!! Obviously this firm wants their employees to be 150% dedicated to them, and then whatever time is left over, you get to spend with family.

That's just awful! Good for you for sticking to your guns, Family comes first.

If i were you, i would start looking for another job ASAP and get out of this one that thrives on single or married employees with no kids who are married to their career first.
