IVF with no coverage?
I'm on my 6th medicated cycle / 5th IUI cycle. I am always thinking about what our next steps will be if the cycle doesn't work, which probably doesn't help the situation. So I'm considering IVF for our next cycle if this one doesn't work. We have zero IVF coverage. For those of you who have done IVF with no insurance coverage, can you give me a ballpark of what the cost was? Were your meds covered? I need to know what we're looking at financially. If you're not comfortable posting it, could you FM me?
We also have the option of doing Micro-IVF at a fraction of the cost, but I feel like if I'm going to be spending thousands, I might as well spend a few more and try to have more embies to freeze.
Thanks!!

Re: IVF with no coverage?
We did 2 fresh and 1 frozen all OOP...
With my first fresh my RE office worked with me on the price because the "grant" money was supposed to come through and never did ( Did you apply for the grant ? Not sure if its still available)
I belive the base cost was supposed to be $8400 + meds + ISCI cost + Embryo freezing + anesthesia + assisted hatching (if needed) ...So in total I'm guessing somewhere between $12k -$15k depending on what you need done .....It's been a while so its hard for me to remember ( or I've blocked it out mentally on purpose -LOL)
When we did cycle # 1 my injectible meds were not covered and I was on Follistim ( which is $$$$) , so I probably spent around $2k on the meds...My 2nd cycle my RE gave me the same discount on the cycle but my insurance company changed and meds WERE covered which was really nice ...
Silly me should have at least put my cycles on one of my credit cards that earned me some air miles or cash back and didn't ...Thats one thing I definately would have done differently
Good Luck !!!!

Re: IVF with no coverage?
I had IVF coverage but since my doctor didn't accept my insurance we had to pay out of pocket and then get reimbursed by the insurance later. Our meds were covered under our insurance but nothing else was. I had a $10 co-pay for each prescription so overall, I paid $200 for the meds. I don't think that's normal. But everything else costs $13,000. Ouch!

Re: IVF with no coverage?
I also just wanted to add......If your injectables are not covered, be sure to let all your nurses know...I was given some meds that were donated back to the office that patients didn't use and then when I had my covered cycle and got my BFP I donated a bunch of meds back to the RE's office to pay it forward....They had quite a stock pile there and were more than happy to donate them to us

Re: IVF with no coverage?
i was able to do the NYS IVF grant so i only had to pay a portion of the total price. if you are in NY and are interested, FM me and i will give you more details. you can use grant money for 2 fresh cycles.
