IVF vs. Adoption

I know a lot of girls on here have struggled with this decision, I was looking for advise on what issues or thoughts aided in your final decision as to which route to take.

Hopefully hearing how everyone else made their decision will aide me to come to mine. I know this a personal decision and only my Dh and I can make, but any advice would be appreciated.

I just saw in your other post that you have a uterine issue. If I was in your shoes, I don't know that I would want to take a risk with a pregnancy so I would probably opt to adopt unless there was a surgery that could help? Good luck.

Re: IVF vs. Adoption

i posted this on a similar thread

we were faced with this decision as well and like others have said, it's a very personal decision, and you have to weigh all factors. Here are some things to consider.

First of all, with adoption, you have to accept the fact the child will not be biologiucal. I know it's a no-brainer, but people have different feelings on raising a child that didn't "come from their loins". You both have to be on the same page regarding that.

Second with adoption, depending on the route you go, there could be a substantial wait. The plus is that no matter how long you wait, you have the piece of mind of knowing that eventually you WILL have a child - guaranteed.

Now for IVF

When it comes to adoption vs. IVF and money situations, I've always used the gambling analogy. Again, you have to make your decision, knowing that whatever you do - win, lose, or draw, you can be at peace with it.

40% odds are very good. IVF are the best odds you have out of all the procedures. But - there's no guarantee. Can you both come to terms with possibly going through all of the emotional, physical and financial stress that IVF involves, and coming up empty? If you take the shot, and you fail, will you still be able to have the money or raise the money to explore adoption?

I can't tell you what I would do here - everyone's situation is different - but I hope that some of my points above have given some food for thought.

best of luck in whatever you decide

We are very lucky to have our insurance pay for 4 cycles. We could never afford even 1 on our own. If we don't succeed we will adopt.

Re: IVF vs. Adoption

This is such a personal decision. I have one friend who could not get pregnant and adopted without every trying any medical procedures. I have another who needed to tryIVF many many times and adoption was just not an thought for her.

I do not have TTC issues but have a bio child and an adopted children. My love for my children, the love I get back from them- well there is no difference. They are just my children.

If you have an adoption question please let me know. My son is adopted from Ethiopia but I did research a lot so maybe I can help.
