IVF: How did you decide where?

With all the facilities on LI & even NYC, can you ladies tell me what ultimately made your decision in choosing the right place? I have no clue where to start, however, over the course of 5 years; Ive been a patient at 4 different ones (for IUI only).

Its such a huge and hard decision to make and Im just lost especially since the procedure itself is not covered by insurance. For example, NSUH is the most expensive. But why? Are they known to have great success? I just dont know.

Any advice is appreciated, helpful & wanted! Chat Icon

Re: IVF: How did you decide where?

When I started out with IVF, I stuck with Dr.B who I had been with for all my IUI cycles. I really trusted him and knew so many people he had success with.

When I eventually moved on to Dr.T at SIRM, I chose him based on reviews from friends. I knew that their office was run similar to Dr.B's in that they communicated well through email. Their office was run VERY efficiently from my consult up until the day I graduated. I never had to wait for appts, I was always able to get in touch with nurses who responded to my questions immediately- or Dr.T himself who also responded usually within the hour. I knew his philosophies were in line with the issues I knew I was dealing with - like my clotting/immune issues. Offices like Cornell don't believe in treating those issues. I once went for a second opinion with them and the doctor I saw literally rolled his eyes when I said I was on lovenox.

I think ultimately what's most important is that you trust who you are with. You are paying them big bucks to coordinate your cycle and get/keep you pregnant. It's not healthy to be with a place where you will be second guessing their protocol, etc.

My insurance company gave me a list of their "facilities of excellence" to choose from. I then found the closest one to my house and made an appt.

Re: IVF: How did you decide where?

First place - I went with the place near me that took my insurance. Their SART rates were not the best, but they were my only option unless I wanted to travel 2.5-3 hours.

Second place - I asked around on LIF and then did my own research. I tried to find a doctor/facility that knew a lot about MFI. I choose the one with the best success rates for MFI.

We have not begun a fresh cycle yet, but I am very happy with how responsive everyone is. My IVF coordinator has been nothing short of amazing and answers all of my questions in a timely, thorough fashion. I am probably getting AF any day now and will start a fresh IVF cycle, next cycle since we are waiting on some lab work for my DH.

I am traveling 3 hours for this treatment - luckily I am a teacher so I have some time off of work and family that is willing to house me for 3-4 weeks.

Re: IVF: How did you decide where?

We are OOP for all of our treatments, IUI and IVF.

I chose an office close to my home (Dr. Zapantis in Jericho, NY), and close to where I work so I could go to monitoring appointments without missing work. While I have a lot of sick time, unplanned time off is rather difficult to schedule.

I also chose a Dr. who I will see at every monitoring appointment and who is very accessible. My Dr. does all my sonos, all my IUIs, and sometimes even bloodwork, he also calls with all my test results.

I used to go to one of the larger practices, but I need more individualized attention.

My Dr's pricing is rather competitive and he and his staff really work with you. I couldn't be happier.

I looked at SART for my age group. From there, I chose based upon proximity. When I was stimming, I had to go for daily monitoring. Distance was a huge factor.

This, basically. But I looked at SART data on the few that were close and made a choice. I also asked around on here.

Lots of luck!

IVF: How did you decide where?

I saw 2 different RE's.

The first came highly recommended on here. After 2 appts with that Dr. I could nto deal with his personality and the insane office and even worse waits.

I then moved to Columbia in the city. The Dr I saw was the same one my sister used and she researched based on results. I also figured I work in the city and would have to make tons of appts and if it was convenient to my job it would be easier and I might have to make a trip in on the wekeend but I was already in there M-F.

I ended up being very happy with COlumbia. I got PG on my own but if I need them for #2 I won't hesitate.

IVF: How did you decide where?

I went on "interviews" I chose the facility that had a good SART rating, offered convenient monitoring hrs and I felt comfy with. Def look around ans see which one fits your needs. Ppl will recommend their RE especially if they got preggo but do what is best for you.
