I've reached my bad news capacity
XP from LIWeddings...
On top of all the other stress going on, my dad being really down and not doing as well as he had been doing after his surgery, etc., etc., etc., and with TEN days until our wedding, FH's BIL was in a really bad car accident yesterday.
His mother was driving and lost control - She drove off the highway, a utility pole cable sliced off the roof of the car, and then they hit a tree. 
He has a few broken bones, including his wrist and hand. He'll likely never regain use of three of his fingers. He badly injured his back and neck and they are still trying to get the glass out of all of his wounds -- including a few in his head. The police told FSIL that they are both lucky to be alive. Apparently, people have been decapitated in accidents like this and if the cable had been a few inches farther to one side, he could have lost his arm!
He's being discharged from the hospital today, but has a LONG road ahead. We will miss him at our wedding, but most importantly we just want him to get better.
FSIL kept apologizing that he won't be able to come to the wedding, and I kept saying "Are you crazy??? All we care about is that he feels better soon!" They live in SC - there's no way he can fly or make the drive how he is now. Poor guy is in a LOT of pain. We're just happy he's alive! I'm sorry we can't go down there to visit him before the wedding!
Please  for a speedy recovery for him!
ETA: There's so much good going on, too, though, that I'm trying not to whine.
Also, I keep feeling like, even though there's a lot of serious stuff going on, it could be worse. I mean, my father and FBIL are alive and will be fine - it'll just be a long road.
I think in a lot of ways I'm lucky... I just keep getting bad news. I don't want any more bad news! I am unfortunately a little superstitious and feel that bad news comes in 3s - so what's next?! (JK... sort of!)

Kara, I'm so sorry to hear this. Thankfully they will both recover. But I know how disappointed you are.
try to stay positive if you can. there's a lot of good in your life right now.

I'm not disappointed, honestly. My wedding was the absolute farthest thing from my mind when I heard which is why I thought it was ridiculous that she was apologizing that he can't come. I am just so sad for him and his family. That's so scary and I know the pain of a severe back injury too well.
I'm trying to stay positive. There's so much great stuff going on and I'm SO excited about getting married, my honeymoon, and buying a house!
I just am trying not to talk about it ad naseum or make a huge deal out of it when people are dealing with some pretty serious stuff.  I don't want to be the one saying "look at me! look at me! Everything's going awesome for me!" while other people don't have it so good right now.

That's what I've been working on myself.
I'm allowed to have the good things even if the bad things are there too.

Just tell them that when he feels better, he can take some photos in his suit and you can photoshop him into the pictures

It's a really, really weird shift of emotions to be going back and forth with... but I have a feeling you know what I'm talking about!

He has a lot of fluid building up around his lungs. It gets so bad he has a lot of trouble speaking. Speaking causes him to cough a lot. He's frustrated as all get out due to this - he's a talker!
It is pretty common - happens to about a 1/3 They put him on meds, but it's too soon to tell if they'll work. They appear not to be working, but I guess we'll give it another couple of days. If they don't work, he has to go in for a procedure to drain it all out. He's very down about the slow progress, which we were prepared for. All stuff we expected, but... sometimes that doesn't make it any easier.
And yes, HOLY CRAP - I'll be married in 10 days and in then in Italy for 2 glorious weeks... Then I come home to a closing!   All fun stuff!!
