IUI Questions
My RE wants to start IUI treatment...could you help me with some questions (which I am planning on asking my RE as well at our next visit)
is it painful (for me?)
Do I need to go on clomid (the issue is with my DH not me)
When would the first round be? Next month?
I am going next week for a hystogram (sp?) to check for any blockage in my uterus. What are the next steps after that? Also, how much does IUI treatments usually cost and are they covered by insurance?
Sorry for all my questions. The RE really took us by surprise when he broke the news to us about my DH. It took a couple of days for it to sink in and now i have all these questions that I should have asked.
Thanks so much

Re: IUI Questions
IUI is not painful, minor cramping after its done. I"m not sure what your issue is but if there is a male factor they may not need you to take clomid. Depending where you are on your cycle really depends on when you will have your iui done. My insurance that I have right now covers iui not IVF, but my husband is getting new insurance and there is no IF coverage, so it really depends, you need to call your insurance company and ask. Best of luck.

Re: IUI Questions
Everyones journey will be differnt. For me it didnt hurt but had some cramping the day after. I too went for the Hsyteroscopy (sp.?) and that didnt hurt at all b/c I didnt have blockages. Your protocol will be based on all your tests. I started with timed BD and ended with injectables. After 5 failed IUI's we moved onto IVF. Dh and I have unexplained infertility. Call your ins. company to see what coverage you have.
Good luck to you

Re: IUI Questions
The procudure isnt painful, but sometimes uncomfortable. They put a speculum in and it depends on if you are bloated, have to pee, etc. Sometimes its more uncomfortable than others. Other times, it's nothing. It's a really quick procedure though.
HSG (hystersalpinogram) wasn't painful for me. I got minor AFlike cramps and a few seconds and that was it. I had a blockage too. Some people experience more pain.
As for clomid, that would be up to your RE since the issue is with DH.
ETA: call your insurance co to see what is covered. Every ins has many plans and cover different things.
Good luck
