IUI-IVF
I think most of you know that I rec'd a scholarship from the INCIID the Heart. Well, the particulars of the Scholarship has changed in that they want us (recipients) to do fundraising and once we reach our goal then they will match me with a clinic. That threw me for a loop and kinda sux but I will deal with it. This is the first year that they changed the program. Lucky me. But, I understand that it is necessary in order for the Program to continue and offer IVF to other women. Either way, I am grateful. Another thing about the Scholarship is that I must use my insurance to cover dx testing, blood work etc. No big deal, my insurance covers it.
Well, my NEW insurance also covers IUI's and while I do my fundraising bit, I want to schedule an appt. at SIRM asap before I get matched. FYI-the woman at INCIID already told me that SIRM are participants. In other words, I want to get the ball rolling before getting matched.
To my question or maybe I just need confirmation:
Do they usually use the same drugs for IUI and IVF? Either way, I am going to do IUI but I am hoping that this could also be a test on how Ill respond to IVF.
Any feedback would be great! YOu would think I'd know the answer by now!
Update: I just spoke to the nurse and she mentioned that it all depends and that ivf/iui are not neccesarily the same protocol.
But, YAY!! My appt. is scheduled for 6/22 with Dr. Batzofin (Kara...your favorite)

Re: IUI-IVF
I know I did an IUI with injectables with my doctor to see how I would respond to them for IVF. Maybe you can discuss this with them and let them know you have a grant and would like to try an injectable IUI round. I'm sure they will accomodate. Just MAKE SURE your insurance company will cover the meds for an IUI round. They are EXTREMELY expensive.

Re: IUI-IVF
My drugs were similair on the IUI/IVF. i think I had one added drug on the IVF and the Progesterone shots after the IVF that was not part of the IUI.

Re: IUI-IVF
Hey I will send you my protocol -- I was on the highest of everything so that may not be you. But I do think a "trial" IUI to see how you respond is a good idea, esp. if your insurance covers it.
I hope you have a great consult with Dr. B., give him my regards. I had great experiences with the whole clinic.
Also if you are not covered for meds., you can get some from on here, and a website - www.freegaragesale.com -- offers at discounted prices. I've found that women dealing with fertility issues are the most compassionate and generous in the world!

Re: IUI-IVF
When I started IVF I went to a different clinic and they asked me what I had used for my IUI's as far as meds and what I had left over. Then they used mostly the same stim meds...so I could use some of what I had.
