ITCHY!!!!!!!!!

What can I do for itchiness?

I've been googling things and it does not sound all that good! I have an appointment one week from today with my ob/gyn so I plan to ask him about it then, but what about in the meantime?

I have been really itchy for over a month now. It started just on my legs, but I thought it was just bug bites (I do have some marks on my legs that I think are/were bug bits, but they are STILL itching which I know isn't normal over a month later).

The itchiest part of me right now is my BACK! There's nothing there - no rash, no bites... but it's extremely itchy. I literally had to wake my DH up the other night to put some cream on my back in the middle of the night! I have been scratching it so much that my back looks horrendous - tons of red scratches, some parts bleeding just from scratching so much!

I looked up PUPPS but it doesn't seem like that. I have no rash or anything.

Any ideas???

What kind of soap/body wash do you use? I was very itchy in the beginning and had these red dots on my stomach (not like PUPPS). I changed my body wash to an unscented one and it went away. I use free and clear detergent so I didn't have to change that.

Sometimes during pregnancy your skin reacts differently to normal everyday items.

I was super itchy too I started using cocoa butter everywhere and it made such a difference. my back was tough to do myself so when dh was home in the am he would do it for me, otherwise I did the best I could

I used to just use regular lotion but it wasn't cutting it. I can't go a day without the cocoa butter. I bought the cvs store brand and it works great.

The only thing that works for me is hydrocortizone 1% cream...

What about the change in weather? I know my skin gets dry and itchy when the colder temps rolls in

Ask yoru Dr about Pupps! I had it at the very end of my pregnancy! I was itchy all over my belly! Luckily I only had to deal with it for a short time, so I didnt use anythign special just did some cold compresses adn I think hydrocortizone cream from time to time! (I THINK, cant remember)
But my OB said some ladies get it alot worse!

ETA: I didnt have a rash either! My stomach and upper thighs would just get red but I thin kthat was from my scratching so much! It was painfully itchy! I didnt have it with my first pregnancy but did with #2

I'm just going to respond to everyone in one post:

I will definitely ask about PUPPS at my next appointment.

I'm going to get some cocoa butter and hopefully that will help a little.

I have been using Cortaid cream every day and it doesn't seem to be helping

I live in San Diego so the weather here hasn't really been changing...

I use the plain Dove soap

this is going to smell gross, but I use it, and it's been a GODSEND - Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap. I had to order it online because none of the GNC's near us had none. Call ahead and find out.

Look up Cholestasis of Pregnancy. I had it with DD and was itchy from head to toe, so bad that I broke blood vessels from scratching. It kept me up all night long and I would have to run to the bathroom all day at work to pull my pants down and scratch my legs. My hands, feet and arms were itchy. Horrible.

Def sounds like pupps!!! My SIL got it 2x with both pregnancies, grandpa pine tar soap!! U can get it at gnc, took it away in a few days!!! It was her only relief!!! Good Luck!!!

This isn't pg-related since I just have bad skin, but when I have a flare-up & am super-itchy I sometimes have to switch off of Dove & start using Cetaphil or Cera Ve for a while. Then when I get out of the shower I use Cetaphil lotion. It's basically the same routine that I use on Ty.

Also, when smaller areas flare-up (I have eczema) I sometimes have to use hydrocortisone. I really try not to now that I'm pregnant, but sometimes it can't be helped.

i was also very itchy while pregnant.

i would moisturize with baby oil after my shower. while still damp & standing in the tub - just squirt baby oil all over yourself. rub it in. then pat dry. t really helped me. the itching would drive me crazy. once i started using the baby oil daily it got much better.
