IT people: help re IM restrictions?
My job has put an end to IM, and when I tried to sign on, I got the following message:
Your page is blocked due to a security policy that prohibits access to category Chat.
The thing is- sometimes it DOES allow access to IM services. Totally random if it will work or not.
Can anyone tell me why?

Re: IT people: help re IM restrictions?
One of my clients blocked IM, but I was able to log into IM through the web. www.aol.com and then click IM at the left side of the page.
Log in as usual.
That way, you don't have to install the AOL IM program on your machine.
Hope that helps!!!

Re: IT people: help re IM restrictions?
I am not sure but if your company is blocking IM, they are doing it for a reason.
If you try to circumvent this by either using a web product or some other way, you are going against their IT policy.
They can monitor your internet usage and if they find out and want to be annoying about it, you could land in some trouble.

Agreed. Plus you may get on the bad side of the IT peeps which is never a good thing.
That said, you have FM Rebecca.

Absolutely.
Do they and to what extent is another question entirely dependant on your company's IT Dept.

you can log onto aim express though aol.com - i don't know if IT can monitor your IMs that way but they should be able to tell you were using aim express.
