Ist Time Injecting Tonight --- TIPS? Gonal/Menopur
I am starting tonight Gonal and Menopur...any tips or tricks? DH is doing it but I want to give him all the advice I can.

Gonal-F is really no big deal at all. It doesn't hurt besides the teeniest pinch (like getting your blood taken) in the belly. You shouldn't have any major adverse side effects either.
The menopur, for me, burned going in and maybe a few seconds afterward but it's fleeting so you just take the burning as it comes and before you know it, it's over!
Good luck! You don't need to ice or heat before/after with these shots. They are the easy ones of the bunch! Good luck

FINALLY!!! I'm so excited you're getting started after that LONG wait to get approved!!! Our cycles will be SO close!! My transfer should be around the 18th(ish).
The Gonal is EASY! You won't have any problems injecting that... The Menopur (for me anyway) burned going in... so do that sloooooow... but after you take the inject out, the burn goes away pretty fast and you don't feel anything

ice with an ice cube for a few minutes til its good and numb. grab a chunk of skin about an inch or so below and to the left or right of your belly button and plunge.
it's so much worse to think about than it actually it is. good luck!!

DH watched some youtube videos on injecting follistim (just like gonal) esp. on how to use the pen.
I definitely recommend icing it first.

I agree w/ this. I actually find it easier to give myself these shots. DH did in the beginning but I always flinched when he did it. Now he gives me the IM shots and I do the subcu. I ice before all of my shots, but I'm a baby when it comes to needles (yes, still, lol...)
I agree, menopur burns going in. I actually ice before and after for a couple of minutes and then I get rid of my ice pack and roll over onto my stomach so it gets warm. Make sure he injects straight in. I always grab an inch of fat and inject into that, then release after I put the needle in. HTH! GL!

I don't... but you can. You'll end up having extra saline, so it's up to you.

I'd go out. The night of my first shot I went out to the Mets game and then dinner. Got home a little later than I wanted to but at least I wasn't sitting around thinking about getting a needle, KWIM?  GL! It'll be a piece of cake!

I just started Menopur last night and it was not too bad. My RE gave me directions and I followed it to a tee. Its more work than the Gonal, but all in all its not bad at all

I just wanted to say thank you! I used all of the tips you ladies gave us. I did use the ice for about 10 minutes first, it was not as bad. The anxiety is worse.
