Isla Mujeres
Has anyone been? My husband and I are considering it for our next trip. We are considering a million places/resorts though. Haha. We are booking only like a month ahead. Isla seems very affordable though and the flights to cancun are direct.

Re: Isla Mujeres
We have been but we just spend the day there we did not stay over. We stayed in Riviera Maya and than paid a local to take us on his boat around Isla Mujeres. It was wonderful. We snorkled around a reef and walked through the cute little town.

Re: Isla Mujeres
If we go, we would go for a week - the beach looks beautiful there! And I have read many great things about the local food.

Re: Isla Mujeres
We stayed at the Excellence Playa Mujeres back in 2008 & it was wonderful. The resort was pretty new so it was pretty empty at the time & we loved it. I believe that we were about 20-30 min from the middle of Cancun, but having been there 2x before we didn't venture out off of the resort. The beach at the resort was nice, but it had a lot of seaweed - so much so that they had a tractor thing go by a few times a day to clear off the beach! Also, while the water was beautiful & blue, I was surprised that it wasn't actually the crystal clear blue that I had seen when I had stayed at the Fiesta Americana right in Cancun. The service, pools & food were excellent & I would love to go again someday...
ETA: I'm sorry - now that I think about it, the EPM isn't actually ON Isla Mujeres. I think that you could take a quick boat ride over though. Sorry about that!

Right, we stayed at EPM as well - it was about a 20 min ferry ride over to Isla Mujeres but wow, it was so worth it b/c the Hotel is absolutely GORGEOUS. I was so thankful to all the great people on here who recommended that I go there. Excellence Playa Mujeres is, hands down, the best All Inclusive I have ever been to - and it was SO reasonable. The whole vaca was a dream. Jet Blue flies direct there, it was great. I give it my absolute highest recommendation. We booked with Travel Tom via Amex Vacations - I would do something secure like that, with all the things they have been saying about Mexico on the news - I felt a lot safer having a private Amex rep pick us up and transfer us where we had to go. GL!!

Re: Isla Mujeres
stay at Excellence Playa Mujeres ! We went on our honeymoon and had the best time ever, The place is incredible, overall the best resort we have ever been too. If you have the extra money, splurge and get the rooftop terrace room. It is AMAZING and worth every penny.
We took a day trip to Isla Mujeres and we are sorry we ever went. We rented a golf cart to tour the island, it ended up breaking and we thought were were going to be robbed for every penny we had. We ended up having to pay $150 which wasnt that bad considering I thought they were going to nail us ! It was very scary and honestly the shops there were not great. I wasnt impressed with that day trip and am sorry we went ! But def stay at the Excellence resort. There is no need to leave !!!

I'll have to second this! We had a rooftop terrace room (overlooking the spa) and it was phenomenal! We honestly didn't leave the property because we spent most of our days up there in our little pool & enjoying the gorgeous view from the terrace. It was heaven!

Re: Isla Mujeres
while epm looks awesome - it is extremely out of our price range for the week we are going. We did an all inclusive last year in riviera maya and decided to do a more laid back sort of trip this year - enter isla mujeres. haha. Or at least that is the impression i get. Any feedback on that? we have been looking into Privilege Aluxes. There is an all inclusive option which seems worth it for breakfast, lunch, and drinks. I read on tripadvisor that isla has a lot of excellent restaurants, so i think we would eat off the resort for dinner. Any restaurant recommendations?

Re: Isla Mujeres
We stayed at EPM last summer and spent a day at Isla Mujeres. We loved it there, and as much as we loved EPM, we could also see ourselves returning to Isla Mujeres for a week in the future. We spent some time on Playa Norte, which is beach with gorgeous clear water and it was so nice. And we drove our golf cart around the island and stopped at Punta Sur on the southern tip of the island. We loved it there because for $3 a person you can walk along paths that overlook the water and theres a small Mayan ruin there too. And we even found a small section of beach to swim in and it was amazing because we were the only ones there. It's actually right next to Garafon park, which is popular for snorkeling, but the people who paid a lot of money to get into the park were all crowded together in the distance while we had our little section of beach all to ourselves! If I stayed on the island for a week, I would probably want to go back to that spot everyday. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Isla Mujeres
Thanks for the tips Grace! The hotel we are thinking about staying in is on Playa Norte. The beach looks fabulous! This trip we really want the blue caribbean water. Last year in Puerto Morelos the water was very pretty and the resort was awesome, but the water wasn't as clear as Isla is supposed to be. While we loved the all inclusive aspect, we thought it would be cool to go to mexico and eat real authentic mexican cuisine as well. We love mexican food! I read about garrafon park and also read there is a snorkeling site next to it for about $5 a person. i think we would check that one out!
