Is this too "Boyish"?

I love the concept of this learning toy:

V-Tech Smartville Alphabet Train Station:

Product Description
Next stop? SmartVille! This "smart" learning toy fuels your child's imagination with moving, interactive parts. Place the included 28 brainy characters on hot spots throughout the station and watch them talk and teach your child. Wind the hands on the station clock to learn time. Identify letters and their sounds on the light-up display. Move the train across the electronic track to hear the alphabet.
With the SmartVille Alphabet Train Station, your child will whisk from whistle stop to whistle stop while learning letters, phonics, vocabulary, numbers, shapes, colors, animals, animal sounds, music and so much more.

I bought it as one of my Goddaughter's Christmas gifts, but have been on the fence with it since before I bought it. I picked it up because I knew it was one of the items that might be hard to get and I figure worse comes to worse, I can return it.

I always associate a train station with a boy, but I thought since this had lots of animal figures and was a general learning toy, that it would be ok for both boys and girls. I am still having my doubts though.

My goddaughter will be 1 and 4 months once Christmas is here. Honestly, do you think this is a more male centered toy, or do you think it is fine for a girl as well?

I hate the idea of gender specific toys. I think she will love it and you should give it to herChat Icon

Re: Is this too "Boyish"?

I think it is great. It is a great learning toy and I think things are moving towards toys being less gender-specific, in that it's okay for girls and boys to play with toys that would be typically for the other sex in the past.

Your goddaughter will LOVE it!

I agree. I think she'll love it. Does the train have an off button?

I totally agree. Christopher's getting a kitchen set for Christmas and the lady at the register gushed that my "little girl will love it!" I'm sure Kaylee will when she's old enough, but for the time being, I'm sure Christopher will love it too Chat Icon. Definitely give it to her!

I agree-trains for girls & kitchens for boys- they don't know what is for boys & girls untill someone teaches them that.

I love trains. I really like the toy. What age is it for? I think my friend's son might like it, but the pieces look small.

Re: Is this too "Boyish"?

My 3 1/2 year old DS has kitchen sets, stuffed animals, dolls, and loves Rachael Ray. He also loves cars and trucks, and already has dozens of them, so when 6 month DD gets older, she'll be playing with cars and trucks, too. I keep both of them on my lap when I'm watching car shows, and they both watch Regis and Kelly, Rachael Ray, etc with my DW, so they'll both get plenty of "cross-gender" exposure.

Re: Is this too "Boyish"?

That is an awesome toy...give it to her.

My almost 5 year old son has a kitchen set, shopping cart, and a doll I bought him when I was pregnant with his baby brother (so we could practice holding, feeding, changing a baby). He loves it all, and so do I.

She will LOVE that toy!!

Re: Is this too "Boyish"?

I loved to play with trains when I was little. I wanted to buy my neices a play train, but my sister always thought it was a little boyish. I would buy that in a minute for a boy or a girl.

I agree! Even with bedding- Jordana''s has pink and blue. She also has a pink sheet and changing mat and a blue one.

It looks like a great toy!

Re: Is this too "Boyish"?

Ask any mom of a girl, and she'll probably admit she's sick of pink and purple. And I'm happy as long as she is entertained, I could care less what gender type toy it is! You should definitely give it to her - it looks like a great toy!
