Is this nursing strike at 10.5 months?
Hi mommas, ds was nursing 5-6x/ day for the past few months then all of a sudden he would nurse a little in the morning, refuse the whole day and nurse a bit at night before bed. It's so drastic! I know that they drop sessions as they get older but is it this drastic? When I try to offer the breast, ds would pull away. I know he's teething, he eats a lot of solids at meals and this weekend I had some over the top spicy food. But still, is it this drastic?  he was biting a nit last week too and he got upset when I said no very sternly. ds used to love nursing.....
Eta: ds's diapers used to be sopping wet and now they're also barely wet.

My DD just refused to BF anymore around 9 months. Is your son walking or more mobile? She started walking around 9 months and no longer had the patience to sit and BF. She wanted the bottle so she could run around while eating. Hope that helps!

I don't have experience with this but if his diapers aren't really wet and he is not nursing, will he drink water? A sippy cup? Just make sure he doesn't get dehydrated.

Could you at least pump so he still gets BM and doesn't get dehydrated? I'd also add BM to his cereal so at least he's getting some during the day. Have you tried different positions such as letting him nurse sitting up? That may take away some of the pain/pressure if he's teething. Could he have an ear infection or be under the weather? I'd also try nursing him in a dark, quiet room so there are no distractions. Good luck!

At 10.5 months he still needs milk as his primary nutrition. He's really most likely not ready to wean yet, if that's what you're worried about. He's probably uncomfortable because he's teething. Just keep offering the breast. It's inconvenient for you, but just be ready for whenever he wants it - if he seems cranky and it's not a regular meal time, maybe he's hungry then and he'll take it.
Keep at it. He needs it and he'll take it. Maybe see what your ped says about water - it'll keep him hydrated, but it'll also fill up his tummy so he wants even less milk, so I don't know how to advise you there.

my DD also stopped BF completely at 9m but i was supplementing and she was eating a ton of table food and drinking water. my supply was very low at that point too and we were only doing morning and night sessions.

My DS is 10.5 months old as well and he's been EBF since birth. Since he started eating well with real foods, he only nurses 2x a day, sometimes 3x. I also give him a sippy cup of water at every meal so he gets the idea and learns to drink from it because he's only had a bottle a handle full of times. He does well with the sippy, but doesn't drink a crazy amount of water.

thank you so much mommas. after 2 days ds finally started nursing again a bit but he's biting so i think it's definitely teething. i'm so worried that if i say "no" when he bites that he won't nurse again now.

Is he teething? DD tends to nip me a little when she is. When teething is at it's worst I make sure she has motrin in her well before nursing and then let her chew on a cold teether for a few minutes before we start. The other time she does it is when she's done and just hanging out at the boob so if that's the case I make sure to pull her off when she seems done.
He came back to nursing this time, so if it happens again I'd keep trying and assume he'll come back again. Sorry you're going through this though. I would check out kellymom for suggestions about nursing strikes and biting.

My son always got upset when I said no when he bit me. You want to make sure not to say it loud enough to startle him. Say it calmly and then promptly end the nursing session. That will teach him that biting=no more milk, which might be more effective. HTH!
