is this even possible??
Dh's co-worker swears their daughter (a week older than samantha) sleeps through the whole night b/c his wife is pumping and is able to feed her more....I say, no way - babies can't hold that much food - it has nothing to do with pumping or bfing.....I have never heard of a baby who is almost 5 weeks old and sleeps throgh the night...can it be true or is he exaggerating as dh suggested??

Re: is this even possible??
I am not sure with BF b/c DS would sleep about 4-5 hours for the longest strech when I was. I switched to formula at 6 weeks and he was sleeping 6-7 hours and then within a week it was about 10 hours.

Re: is this even possible??
babies can sleep through the night that early, but I don't believe its because of the pumping. How does that enable her to feed her more? The baby will only eat so much.
My mom had us all sleeping through the night at 3 weeks, so now she can't understand why my 3 month old still wakes up

Re: is this even possible??
I don't know about the pumping or BF but when we brought Taylor home from the hospital, she slept from 7:30 at night until 7:30 in the morning...and I actually woke her up. Then we told the Dr. that she slept through the night and he told me I had to wake her up at least once a night to feed her.
I did that for about 3 or 4 weeks, but she would feed for like 2 minutes and fall asleep. I would nudge her, stroke her etc. She just wasn't interested.--So I stopped waking her up.
We were very fortunate.
She still (at 19 months) pretty much sleeps through the night unless she is sick, has a bad dream or just misses us and wants to come into our bed...

Jordana also slept from about 10-6 when she was 4 weeks old. Of course that stopped around 3 months. In hte last 3 months we have dealt with everything from 3 am "playtime" to not going to sleep until 1. Now she just wakes up a few times a night for her pacifier.

I agree. I know a friend whose baby is like that - they since Day1 he has pretty much slept thru the night. He is like 20 months now and they said they had a handful or rough nights.
I figure they got lucky or they are really deep sleepers and never hear their baby!

Jenna has slept through the night from 6 weeks old and here we are 2 years later and she has never once woken up during the night-not even with sikness or teething. I just consider myself very lucky and my next child wil be an insomniac!

Re: is this even possible??
Consider it luck. I have a two year old that is not the best sleeper...thinks 5:30 am is an acceptable time to get up.

Re: is this even possible??
Sleeping through the night is technically only a 6 hour stretch, so who knows how long their baby sleeps for? Ava started going 8+ hours a night at 6 weeks. I think more babies do it than not.

Re: is this even possible??
I think the better question is what qualifies as "through the night"?
Does she feed the baby at 1am & he is awake at 5am? It's through the night but still every 4 hours. Also is she feeding him through the night. Joseph slept through the night technically because he would nurse in his sleep.

I BF only and my son has been sleeping through the night since about 5 weeks old. He sleeps 12 hours like clockwork! We are so thankful to get a good night's sleep.
