Is this common/normal (re: Daycare & Babysitting)

DD goes to daycare (started last month).

DS went to the same daycare when we was younger. I met some great girls from there and a couple used to babysit for us back then, and 1 still does on occasion.

I'm in need of another babysitter (as needed), so I asked one of the girls that works at the daycare.

She said yes, she came by one evening about 2 weeks ago to see DD's night time routine and we discussed a couple dates for later this month to have her watch the kids.

I saw her at the daycare this week and she said to me that she was going to leave me a babysitting form to fill out, it won't have to be all the time, just this first time.

Am I missing something?

I'd be paying her to watch my kids, not the daycare

The babysitting would be on her time - not like she is needing to take the day off to watch my kids.

Is this common/normal??

I had asked another girl if she babysits (this girl is DD's regular teacher) and she said she does, but she already babysits for 3 other families and *Mary (the director) suggested she not take on any more families.

Re: Is this common/normal (re: Daycare & Babysitting)

When I had DD enrolled in a Preschool/daycare center I had to sign a form stating that I would not ask any of the teachers to babysit. I think it had something to do with them not wanting parents to offer more and hire them as a nanny.

Is this common/normal (re: Daycare & Babysitting)

I think it's considered a conflict of interest. Our friends had their dd in daycare and when they had their second a girl left the daycare to be their nanny. It was a big conflict. I know babysitting is different at night, but I think that's the daycares policy.

Re: Is this common/normal (re: Daycare & Babysitting)

I was thinking it could be about conflict of interest, but to be honest, I can't afford to hire one of them as a nanny - as well, my MIL was watching DD prior to starting daycare, and we enrolled her for 2 reasons (1) MIL is going to be away for 6 weeks and (2) we want to have her in a social atmosphere.

I don't mind filling out a form stating I won't hire her as a nanny, but it s*cks, I'm having SUCH a hard time finding a babysitter!!!!!!!

We aren't allowed to ask the teachers at DS daycare to babysit and even if we do they are not allowed to accept.

I have a really good babysitter in the Patchogue area! She is responsible, experienced and really good with my kids! She watches another girl on my block too. FM if you are interested in her #

Wow, I'm surprised they were able to do this. I know at DD's school we had to fill out forms saying we wouldn't hire any of their employees in this manner (I don't remember the wording). I know other parents use the teacher for babysitting, so obviously that is allowed.

I think the form the OP was asked to fill out is probably along those lines, so it's clear the employee isn't being "stolen" for FT nanny purposes.

We haven't had to do this but, I have friends that use other daycares that aren't allowed to ask daycare employees to babysit. My friend who lives near Albany can use a teacher from the daycare but, then has to pay the daycare an insane "finders fee".

Yeah, I know. Was messed up, but I think the girl just resigned and never said what or where she was going. And for the family, I'm sure they didn't say anything. Dh's friends, not mine.

Same here.

They are afraid we are going to "steal" them lol.

And I want to! There's one woman at Julian's daycare I LOVE - I wish she could watch him in our home all the time. But no can do Chat Icon

I had to sign a form to have a teacher from daycare watch our kids. It is standard at our center.
