I am looking at some places to rent and found one that we like but the rent is a little more than we can afford right now.

In this economy, I am sure most landlords would be open to negotiate rather than have an empty apartment and no tenant.

it never hurts to try. they may have set it a little higher so there's room to negotiate
if your their only offer, and the place is vacant, a slightly lower rent is better then no rent

Try to get some "dirt" on them first. Ask questions like, how many units to you have available that we can choose from (if its a complex). That way when you ask for a discount you could say "I know you have x amount of vacancies" b/c they prob would give a disc but obv don't really want to. This way you have leverage. I would also do research on similar places that have lower pricing so that you can use that too. Good luck!

We are looking for tenants at the moment and would consider negotiating for the right person. I wouldn't be offended at ALL and would prefer having nicer tenants even if it meant getting a little less a month.
Of course, depends on the person, but would you really want to rent from someone that is that sensitive anyway?
