Is Japanese Straightening Really Bad?
I really love my hair straight and get tons of compliments when I get it blown out. Plus I have 2 kids and work full time so I dont have lots of time for blow-drying/salon blow outs
sss00000--should I do Japanese?
I am just worried about ruining my hair
I have done the Brazilian and it was good for frizz/managablility but didnt give me the straight hair I love
thoughts???

Re: Is Japanese Straightening Really Bad?
I don't know if it's BAD - it's just a matter of opinion and how much abuse your hair will take ........Some people dye their hair blonde to black to red in a matter of months........kwim?
I don't like the permanance of it - You have to grow it out. And I keep my hair REALLY long - so for me, it's not an option. I also feel that on some hair, depending on the texture, it's too obvious that it's not natural -
But My friends swear by it.

Re: Is Japanese Straightening Really Bad?
I loved when I had my hair straightened. I think my hair was actually healthier because I always let it airdry and didn't fry it with a blow dryer and then a flat iron. My hair is wavy, but very thick so it is puffy and frizzy if it isn't flat ironed.
I did it for about 5 years straight and then let it grow out for a change. I hate my hair now and I can't wait to do it again!

Right,I dont think its bad...its just a matter of preference and what works for you.
BTDT- I have had JHS and Brazilian.
JHS was great but after awhile I missed my locks or whatever was left of them.
Im a Gemini...I get bored quickly
So I did it once, then came Brazilian and that worked for me and my hair and my lifestyle.

Re: Is Japanese Straightening Really Bad?
I love it. Yes, the chemicals can be damaging, but for me it is much less damaging than blowing my hair out a few times a week and using a flat iron. I only get it done once a year to avoid excess damage, so I do have to blowdry/flat iron roots towards the end of the year. I am going to continue to get his done FOREVER! It saves me sooo much time. Yes, the look can get "boring" but its worth al the extra hours I am not spending on doing my hair and the no frizz!

I love it! But, a girl I work with had an allergic reaction to it and her hair started falling out. It wasn't breakage... the hair was falling out with the roots intact. She ended up with huge bald spots and had to take steroids to stop the reaction. So, if you've never done it before I would make sure they do an allergy test at least a couple days before.

Re: Is Japanese Straightening Really Bad?
I have had it done twice and will be getting it done for the third time within the next month.
I really like it. I don't love it. My ends look dry and dead. I have some slight breakage underneath. Overall, the pros outweigh the cons for me right now. Very easy. Wash and go. My friends assure me that the ends don't look as bad as I think they do, but they may just be trying to make me feel better. LOL
I do dread growing it out though. It will take forever and will require a lot of work in the process.

Re: Is Japanese Straightening Really Bad?
I did it once and I loved it. I don't care if its bad for my hair or not. It was amazing. All i did was run my fingers through my hair after a shower and it dried perfectly. I was able to wake up for work an hour later than usual just becuase I didnt have to blow dry my hair. I havent done the japanese straightning in a long time but I told DH the other day that once this baby is born and im done breast feeding I am getting it done again!

That's what happens when the chemical hits your scalp if they haven't put the protectant on your scalp. it'll fall right out from the root.

They used the scalp protector on her. She told me that her dermatologist said it was an allergic reaction to one of the chemicals in the product. She can have the keratin straightening done if the products are formaldehyde & thioglycolate free ... but she can't do the Japanese.
