Is it wrong that I *WANT* a c-section
Seems like the only way that I can spend more time with my baby!! God this HR stuff is for the birds!
Its so confusing 6 (or 8) weeks for birth 4 weeks for ‘bonding time’ 3 weeks (???) vacation maybe.. because it accrues? What about the holidays? Thanksgiving, Xmas? What about the Personal days? What about my sick leave since I am required to use 5 out of the ten days..
UGH
At this point I just think it’d be easier to have a C/S so I could stay home the extra two weeks!!!

I could see why you would feel that way. I personally don't want a c-section, but the extra time off (which is needed for recovery) does sound appealing.

i wouldn't prefer the c-section for the extra time - it's major surgery and you need those extra two weeks to recover in the beginning, so it's not like you are getting more *quality* time with your DC - it kind of works out the same either way (i have no children, so this is JMO).

Re: Is it wrong that I *WANT* a c-section
I totally understand... becuase I don't even get the 6-8 weeks as paid leave I'm only entitled to disability pay, which is next to nothing.
I'm therefore using up all of my vacation and sick time (I don't get personal time)

ITA DH and I were just talking about this last night, it wasn't like I spent more time with DD, but less, cause I couldn't get in and out of bed (if it was the middle of the night) and I couldn't get up and off the couch quick enough in the beginning. I definitely see what you are saying with the time off, but honestly, it might not be any better for those 2 weeks

Well, I had an awesome C-section and really did enjoy the extra time but a lot of people don't have as a great as recovery.

Me too. I'm glad I had one. I had no problems with my c/s and really no pain and that extra 2 weeks was priceless for me. It's sad that you have to have major surgery to spend more time with your child.

Re: Is it wrong that I *WANT* a c-section
from what i understand all that extra time is spent recovering. everyone i know who has had one says it is a painful, long recovery. not sure why one would choose that. eta: what would be ideal would be if our country mandated longer leaves so women wouldn't have to wish for major abdominal surgery to spend more time with their little ones

I kinda thought so too until I went through it. It *sounds* easier, but it totally is NOT. Aim for natural pregnancy and go with a C/S as a last resort, I promise

Re: Is it wrong that I *WANT* a c-section
I was begging for a c-section by 39 weeks but not because I wanted the extra weeks. I just wanted her out! I was induced at 40weeks and had a c/s anyway because DD was too big (they realized this after 30 hours of labor) Personally for me the 1st week was the hardest and that was spent in the hospital. Once I was home I moved slower but was ok for the most part. So no I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting one.

Re: Is it wrong that I *WANT* a c-section
I didn't have too much of a painful recovery but not painless one either But I wouldn't choose it just to get the extra 2 weeks off. I was not feeling 100% and was glad DH was home to help with Hayley.
I am having another section because I know what to expect. I don't want to be in labor for many hours only for my Dr to say Sorry, you are ending up with a c-section anyway.

I totally agree! I had no issues gettign up to take care of DS at night or whenever.
But I didnt get extra time off because of it, I simply got paid for an extra 2 weeks, my leave was 12 weeks regardless.
PS. Its not wrong to want it at all. My Dr said in the last 2 years she has had more and more patients have sections electively for all different reasons. I had a roomate my first night in the hospital who had her DS 2 weeks early by c-section because she wanted him to be born before Christmas...
