Is it weird...
That I think I get cramps from drinking too much water??? I realized today that I'm drinking an OBSCENE amount of water (to the tune of about 200 oz per day). I realized this after my FORTH 20 oz bottle refill around 10:30 this morning and I was having cramping... I decided to take a quick walk and stop drinking so fast, and bam, the cramps are gone... Coincidence?? I think not. So strange!!!!

I didn't even realize I was drinking that much until I had to bring in individual bottles (I usually just refill my water bottle with the cooler absentmindedly). I looked down and couldn't believe how many bottles were empty already. It's 3:30 and I've drank about 100 oz already, most of which was this morning! Guess I better keep a closer eye on this.

Yes be careful with too much water- it can flush out potassium and vital electrolytes.

I never would have thought of that... good to know! Thanks!
I remember a few months (? maybe more) back someone on this thread had mentioned a water they buy that had extra electrolyte in it.. anyone recall?

That's a lot of water in a very short period of time - I can see how you would get cramps. Are you only recently drinking this much water or you normally do?

I've always been a big water drinker (I'm always thirsty), but I've been drinking a lot more the last few days because I've been extra thirsty (supposedly b/c of the hormones). I never would have thought that (a) I was actually drinking that much water, or (b) drinking that much would cause those cramps... which it def did, I've only drank 1 bottle this whole afternoon so far and ZERO cramping. I've been so bloated already that I think the extra bloat from the full bladder made it really uncomfortable.
eta: I really feel like an idiot with this one!

That is way too much water. Not to scare you, but you can get water intoxication which can lead to death. Water winds up diffusing into your brain cells and they swell. Because of the skull, these cells have nowhere to expand, which causes pressure on the brain.

Btw - I remember reading somewhere (or maybe one of my nurse friends fold me?) that increased thirst could be a sign of diabetes. I'll try and find the link. If it continues maybe ask your ob?

I actually got really sick from drinking too much water around 28 weeks.. I ended up in the hospital bc of this exact thing. I was cramping every where bc I had flushed out my system and had a really bad electrolyte and potassium deficiency.
I kept being told to drink more water for my leg cramps- but meanwhile the excessive amount of water I was drinking was causing the cramps.

I've heard that too, I think it was all in my head. Once I cut back, I didn't miss it. I think I was just gulping and drinking to keep me occupied and distract me from my nerves. The gulping could also explain a little of the excess gas I've been experiencing.

Pregnancy itself also makes you more thirsty. I remember being thirsty all the time while pregnant and I did not have GD. Your body requires more fluid while pregnant so that is the reason.

I was also having dry snacks (honey bunches of oats, yummy), but I switched it up for more water fruits (grapes, apples) and I think that is making a difference so far.
