Is it normal to not have sono until 6 weeks?
Don't they usually do one at 5 to see the sac?

No, Dr.B does the first at 6wks... It's the soonest you could see a heartbeat. I had an earlier sono with Dr.Kofinas last cycle and I just found it added unnecessary stress not seeing the heartbeat even though I KNEW it was too soon!

its normal. i actually think its silly when dr's do sonos earlier than that. IMO why would you want to see a sac?? a sac guarantees pretty much nothing about the pregnancy except that its not ectopic. at least at 6w theres a good chance to see the heartbeat. while that still doesnt guarantee anything, at least when you see the heartbeat you know its not chemical.

Normal for many Dr.'s...but many want to look earlier to rule out ectopic pregnancy as soon as possible. I must agree though...early sonograms just seem to bring unwanted stress. I would even say its best to wait 6 weeks and a few days for your sanity just in case you do not see the HB at 6 weeks...many just need another day or two or three.

But can ivf be ectopic? It's implanted. It can't jump or move right!?

IVF has a high risk of ectopics...I know crazy...
The embryo doesn't implant until day 6 (so day after Day 5 transfer and 3 days after Day 3 transfer)....until then it just floats in the uterus (where it was put in) but there is a chance it might "leave" the uterus and venture to your Fallopian tube and even ovaries (rare)...I know...how can that happen??..but it does..
If your beta is "normal" and it doubles normally..then you will not get a first sono until 5 1/2 - 6 weeks

Actually, I think that IVF increases for some reason the chances of an ectopic. That being said...I think the rate is like 2 percent or so...very low. Yes...the embies are transferred into the lining, but the uterus contracts during transfer and there is some movement before the embryos implant. I would not worry about it unless you have a reason to.
If you have erratic beta #'s, pain to the abdomen, etc your Dr might see you earlier as these could be signs of an ectopic. Otherwise...I'm sure all is fine. Like I said, I would not choose to go in earlier than 6 weeks unless I had to...its too traumatic when you do not see a fetal pole/yolk sac/HB even though you know it it completely normal. You still worry.

Re: Is it normal to not have sono until 6 weeks?
I just checked back and my first sono was 5w6d! Dr.B pushed for 6 weeks but It was more convenient for me to go at 5w6d and he said fine. I think the longer you wait the more you get to see, so in the end its better to wait

Thanks ladies! Guess all doctors are different.
I shouldn't complain too much since I have to go to NYC to the dr.

Re: Is it normal to not have sono until 6 weeks?
I had one at 5 weeks just to make sure it wasn't tubal bc of previous issues.
Then had another at 7 weeks.
I think since your number rose pretty well you should be out of the ectopic. Hang in there!
