Is it me??
There is a pic in last weeks People magazine of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes (surprise, surprise ) and they were ice skating. Don't you think that ice skating might not be the safest thing for a pregnant woman???

Re: Is it me??
Ummm YES!!!! I'm almost 7 months and all winter I would not go ice skating. Talk about dangerous- not to mentino your balance is totally off. ITs so freaky!! He MADE her go to Central Park in the cold on her b-day too. She looked so miserable.
For someone so interested in the baby (buying a sonogram machine) he doesn't care too much what he makes the woman carrying that baby do.

That baby is a Scientology baby and aren't they supposed to be so much better than us mere mortals?
In all seriousness, I would never do it myself. Unless you were a professional figure skater or close to it I can't imagine why any woman would.

I went ice skating pregnant without a problem when I was expecting without any problems. I don't see a huge deal.

Re: Is it me??
I wanted to go ice skating so bad last winter when I was pg. I still wasn't that big but DH was like "are you insane"? Needless to say he wouldn't let me and eventually I agreed that he was right and it probably wasn't something I should do while pg.
BUT, I think (this my opinion, not medical opinion) that in the 1st trimester it's probably totally fine and I would have done it. But once you are showing, and your balance is thrown, it's probably not a good idea.

Guess I'm not a normal person according to most of you. Is it worse that I went skating this winter holding a 6 month old??

I would never say that you're not normal! It's your own personal decision. I just feel like falling is such a dangerous thing when your pregnant, and it happens even when you're walking in a pair of sneakers. Why risk it and try to skate on a blade???

I'm sure you're a serious skater if that's the case then, so it's completely normal. I know that I never have gone while I was pregnant, because I fall every time I try to go skating. If I was a good skater, that would be different.

Because it is something I enjoy doing. I also went to the gym, drove my car in the rain and went on with my normal activites slightly modified but I never stopped totally. The way I look at it is something was to happen to my Baby it's already in God's Plan and it's going to happen no matter if I'm skating, walking, getting out of bed, driving my car... etc.. There would be no way that I would do jumps though due to my balance being off but normal skating as long as you have some talent I see no problem with.

Well again, it's your own personal decision. Personally, if there were something that I enjoyed doing, but there were serious risks involved, I wouldn't do it while I was pregnant.

Re: Is it me??
Everyone has to do what they think is right.
I'm almost 7 months pregnant, and I do all the same things I used to do regularly before I got pregnant- work out, etc...
However, the seasonal things that I don't do often and am not too good at- like ice skating and skiing, I decided to skip for this year. I have already had 1 fall, while wearing sneakers, and am not interested in the risk of falling again. If I was Dorothy Hamill- then it would be another story- but since I am not even close, and not such a good skater, it is something that I could definitely skip. I usually go only once or twice a winter anyway so it was no big sacrafice.
To each their own...
