Is it good or bad to microchip your dog?
i've heard of micro-chipping and have no idea if it's something i should do for my 3-yr old dog
is it humane?
is it recommended?

I haven't done it yet, but it can be a great tool to help find your dog if they ever get loose.
I contacted NSAL and they do it there for a minimal fee.

What would you do if your dog slipped his or her collar and ran away? Happened to my sister.

two of our dogs are microchipped....even though I don't think they will even run away, its def a great peace of mind

it's the best thing to do. god forbid your dog gets loose or someone steals your dog(!) it's the best thing. especially since they could lose their collar but can't lose the chip. and remember to actually activate it online. alot of people get it done but don't ever put the information in!

Definitely humane and almost a necessity these days. Most shelters have a scanner, so if the dog were brought in they can scan it and trace it back to you.

I wondered the same thing, but we went for it. I had Sammy neutered and had it done then, I figured, it would be less painful.

Our dogs are both microchipped. They didn't seem to react worse to the injection than to any other shot they've gotten, and it's so worth it to us to know that if they do run away or get loose somehow, we've taken that extra step to help locate them.

If you do a search you might find a few articles that were published recently that suggests the chips might be cancerous. This is neither a founded statement or a valid one as of yet.
To me, the value of having a microchip is beyond its worth in money. It saved my friend's dog from being condemned in a kill shelter.

okay - so now that i'm convinced i need to do this - next question is where? the vet? a shelter (even though i didn't get here there?)

My vet does them and I believe most do. You may want to start there. Good luck

North Shore Animal League did it for my dog for like $30 I think.
