If you can afford it, then it's not bad at all. We had contributions to DSs furniture set and it still cost us over $1000.

Re: is it bad...
i definitely don't think we can afford it
plus the other crib i like is from target and is about $250 or $260 so i'd rather put the $$ towards another piece of furniture.
but i did send the link to my mom in case she wants to help us out

Nothing is bad if you can afford it, but I am willing to bet that if you look hard enough, that you could find something well within your price range that is close in color and style.

you're totally right - actually the crib and dressser i registered for is $200 less than the pottery barn crib alone.
it's just nice to dream

Oh this I know. I have my furniture picked out and it is on the expensive side. I am blessed that my Mom wants to pay for it, but that did not guide my decision.
I got her a catalog and wrote down the prices of all the pieces. She says to me "You should have whatever you want." I looked at her and said "What I REALLY want would run you about 10K so you should think about retracting that statement." I assure you that the furniture I chose is nowhere near that price.
She forgets that I used my sister's baby furniture and back then, there was no pressed wood, everything was solid and affordable.

heh, I'm right there with you... I'm in love with an oeuf crib... that's $900... and the bottom drawer is an extra $200-300... I forget.... numbers seem to blur when there are more than 3 digits
the crib I registered for is $320... still very pretty.....
