Is he seriously hungry 2x night?!
The past few nights I've had to feed Ryan around 1AM, then 4AM and then he's up between 6-7 when I feed him again and he'll sleep til 8:30/9AM.
Is he playing me for a fool or could he seriously be hungry? He eats throughout the day (when I work I he gets 24-30oz PLUS I nurse him 3x) and cereal twice a day.

If he's getting that much during the day, I think he's nursing for comfort at night.

Jessee,
Have you started cereal? We just gave Gavin for the first time baby bananas. He loved it.
Does Ryan take a binky? I noticed with Gavin when he stirs it is bec he lost his binky.

So what are my options? He's too young for CIO - and I'm not even sure I can go there. When I go in for the earlier one I usually try to give him the paci and it USED to work, but lately he spits it out and twists and turns turing to pull up on the side of the crib and kicks his legs over the breathable bumper getting them in the crib slats - so I'm nervous to just let him alone like that.

He's doing cereal twice a day and I'm adding veggies tomorrow. The binky doesn't seem to be helping

Well then these two deserve each other - maybe they can have a playdate at 3AM

Re: Is he seriously hungry 2x night?!
Is Ryan in his crib in another room?
Gavin is still in the bassinet in our room (soon he I will transition him to the crib because he is almost 15lbs, but I LOVE having him in our room).
I was actually thinking of bringing the crib into our room. Maybe he will sleep better if you are in the room. Just a thought? Plus, I know you are working and commuting so it might be easier on you.

He's in his crib until he wakes between 6-7 when DH goes to work. Then he'll sometimes bring him in to me. On the days I don't work he will lay in bed with me and sleep til 9-10AM sometimes if I leave out a boob
He's 18 or 19lbs now - he def. should be "heavy" enough not to need 2 night feedings

Re: Is he seriously hungry 2x night?!
I am in the same boat. Dylan goes to bed between 7-8. If I don't dreamfeed at 10 he's up at 1 and again at 5. If I dreamfeed he makes it until at least 2 sometimes 3am and then he can usually make it until 6:30 when I get up.
DH decided he was just getting up for the comfort and has gotten up to rock him back to sleep the last few nights at 1 or 2. He will sleep for 10-20 min and wake up crying again. This will go on until I feed him. The longest he ever makes it is 6 hours. But sometimes as little as four.
He got a tooth this week too and the pediatrician told us he shouldn't be eating at night once he gets his first tooth because it can rot the tooth so now I feel even worse about feeding him in the pm.
Is there such a thing as a sleep consultant? I would pay someone to come in and tell me what to do!

Re: Is he seriously hungry 2x night?!
Poor little Ryan and poor Mommy! I have no advice - Megan gets up 1x a night - she started veggies this week and it hasn't made a difference - I don't know if its habit or if she's really hungry- usually when she wakes up she's trying to eat the breathable bumper!

Re: Is he seriously hungry 2x night?!
It sounds like this isn't typical for him. It's quite possible he's cutting a tooth- or going through a growth spurt.
When either would happen, DD is a MESS at night. In fact. last week I posted how she was waking up SCREAMING at night a few nights in a row- NOTHING would calm her but a bottle. Well- what did I spy in her mouth yesterday? A big ole molar had cut through (and she's been sleeping through the ngiht again).

He's never been an awesome sleeper - but a little worse these days. I had a small period were he was making it through the night - then he was going til 3/4AM. Lately he's been up for the first time between 12:30-1AM and the paci seems to work (although I'd prefer not having to get out of bed at all!) and then eating again at 3/4ish. The past few nights he seems hungry both times he's up.
And Jen, yep - he eats the bumper. Yesterday I had to pull the sun shade up in the car on the carseat b/c I look in our mirror and spot he has the hood in his mouth - using it at a teething toy! BTW, how was Gymboree yesterday - was it the crappy teacher?!

I didn't go to gymboree yesterday either - we opted to go to the beach instead! Megan wasn't sure if she likes the ocean or not...

Todd Jr is doing the same thing!!
I EBF him and he eats a lot through out the day, then at like 8pm I nurse him before he goes in his crib, he wakes up again at 12am for another feeing then wakes again at like 4, then again at 7, then sleeps till 9am. I really want to knock out that 4am feeding!!

Re: Is he seriously hungry 2x night?!
Im in the same boat... I love the nights he only wakes once... but usually its 2x for us too! They ar quick feedings though! I was reading something on breastfeedint that said babies up to a year get up to nurse at least once during the night and it helps keep your supply up... I think its part of bfing.... who knows!

I swear, Ive had it LOL I dont know what Im doing wrong. She slept better when she was a newborn. She eats a ton during the day, she has been on solids, she isnt teething (according to the ped) I dont get it. She is fine, then she starts to stir at 3/4ish and wants to play and talk and nurse. I try to just rub her back or give her a paci, NOTHING. I finally bring her in bed with me, and then she sleeps. But I dont because Im so uncomfortable trying not to roll over on her

I agree. DS just currently went through this, in the last 2 weeks he was getting up more than he did when he was 1 week old, it was rough. But we discovered he needed more calories during hte day. so we upped his bedtime feeding by 1/2 jar of fruit and it has done the trick. If he has been on the same qty of food for a bit then he might just need more now.
I will warn you, I am sure not all kids had this reaction, but some veggies upset DS's tummy and it would make him get up at night with gas or just discomfort. I make sure to do veggies at his lunch feeding and fruit at bedtime now.
GL!
