Is anyone's family NOT good as a babysitter?

Long story but I've had to go back to work full-time the past few weeks. My mom has been watching DS. I knew it wouldn't be easy for her but I thought things would be OK.

One night, I come home from work and DS is in a a VERY dirty diaper (OK, it happens). The next night, he's starving for dinner (she says he wasn't hungry when she offered it to him). The next night, I see my neighbor and he stops me to complain how my mom has been rude to him (she's been yelling at his barking dogs).

I just feel because clearly my mom can not handle watching DS. I want him to spend time with her but not at the risk of being dirty, hungry, etc, KWIM? Guess I'm looking for a sitter.

Yes, but not to that extreme. My dad and step-mom just dont pay attention to what I say and do what they want...they did raise 5 kids that are all alive The last time my sm watched her she was freaking starving and you could tell she had been crying for awhile and was yelling Bubble Bubble. Judy said she told her to wait until after Days of our Lives She is 20 months old....like she can wait. She also wasn't really watching her because my house, EVERYSINGLE wall had crayon all over it That was the last time they will watch her here, and it's sad because they love her so much, but it's just to much for her. I feel your pain.

My mom is not well, so she's not an option for us. My siblings either have a ton of kids of their own (at least 3 each) or single and NOT willing to babysit. No grandparents except my mom.

It stinks not to have a reelable & trustworthy babysitter. My husband's mom's old friend suggested we ask our dd's nursery school teachers if they babysit on the side and we hit the jackpot. I know it's not exactly your situation, but maybe you can ask your buddies with kids in daycare if any of their teachers sit on the side or have friends looking for work.
