Is 18 months old too young to be a flower girl?

My SIL is getting married this May (on my b-day) and she wants DD to be the flower girl. My DH told her yes, but do you think it's too young? I remember my ring bearer was 4 and wouldn't walk down the aisle. We can't say no now, but what do you think?

It all depends on the child. Someone may have to walk with her but I doubt that will be an issue. I think it is great that they want her to be part of the wedding.

I think it depends on the child. My FG & RB were 4 and my sister's were 3. They had their battles, but everyone made it down the aisle.

I think my DS will be the RB in my brothers wedding and he will be about 3.

It all depends on the child. I've seen a 1.5 year old walk down smiling and waving and a 6 year old too scared.

My nephew was 2 when I got married. He was first afraid to even though he was going to be next to his older brother. My older nephew walked down and my 2 year old nephew walked down with my sister who was the maid of honor. It was so cute! Chat Icon

Have her do it!!!! she will look adorable and you can always nudge her down the aisle or wait at the front and have her walk towards u

I have also seen weddings where they decorate a wagon and have an older kid pull the wagon holding the younger kid down the aisleChat Icon

if someone walks with her it could work. but the bride has to be flexible...you DD may change her mind at the last minute and not go/tantrum. it's overwhelming and so different.

Re: Is 18 months old too young to be a flower girl?

My brother and future SIL have asked DS to be a ringbearer at their wedding...he will be 20 months...I told them as long as they don't get upset if he doesn't walk. I don't think you can make a 1 1/2 yr old walk on demand. They said that was fine, there will be another ring bearer who is 3 who will do the job.

It should be interesting to see how it plays out.

I think it depends on the child as well....

What about decorating a wagon in tulle and having the ring bearer pull her behind Chat Icon !!!

Either way, I say have her do it Chat Icon

My niece was my flowergirl, she was 8 months old maybe, my nephew who was the ringbearer and 2 1/2 pulled her down the aisle (picture below). If she doesn't mind someone helping her if she can't make it on her own then of course not. Also, I told my SIL that if either of them decided last second that were going to have a fit and not want to go down then not to worry about it, she should be ok with that as well cause it could happen.

DD was 14 months and did GREAT!

I think it depends on the child. DD is a showstopper and loves attention. She is far from shy.

When is the wedding? If you are interested, I had her dress made and it was perfect for her age. I can send you a picture if want to borrow it.

Re: Is 18 months old too young to be a flower girl?

I was a FG for my aunts wedding when I was 20 months old. I apparently thought climbing up and down the stairs and sliding down the side of the bima was super fun. My aunt was really angry that I did that and it caused huge problems in my family. The bride needs to be really flexible about it.
