we went about 4.5 years ago... LOVED it!!! we booked a package through AerLingus vacations. so basically it included the flight, rental car, and 6 nights of hotel... BUT the hotels were in different spots ( 2 nights in each hotel). so it was helpful because we at least knew where woould be staying on which days, and could look for things in that area to do for those days. the first night was in dublin. Then 2 nights near Cork, 2 nights near Limerick, and then the last night was back in Dublin before we flew home in Dublin we just walked around the city- saw st. patrick cathedral, etc. we also did the Blarney castle, the Jameson distillery, Guiness factory tour, and there was a place with some really nice gardens... but i can't remember the name of it!! We also drove to the Cliffs of Moher one day, which were awesome and definitely have to see!! so... yeah... check out if AerLingus vacations still does packages like that... like i said it was nice bc it was planned for us, but kind of not at the same time... FM with any other questions

I agree that a tour is the best way to go. It's not easy to travel around Ireland unless you plan to drive- and some of those roads are bananas.
We went to visit family and for a wedding, so we didn't get to do as much sightseeing as I would've liked, but we visited Bunratty Castle, The Cliffs of Moher, and climbed Croagh Patrick. Cliffs of Moher are beautiful- that's a MUST. Same with Croagh Patrick- it's a tough hike, but it was incredible.

Re: IRELAND
DH and I did a roadtrip through Ireland when we were still dating. It was one of the best trips we've ever taken.
We did a Fly & Drive through Aer Lingus. It included airfare, rental car, and vouchers for B&Bs throughout Ireland. We flew into Shannon and out of Dublin and basically drove across country.
We did the following:
Galway - Stayed in B&B here (one night) Cliffs of Moher Killarney Ring of Kerry Kenmare - Stayed in B&B here (2 nights) Blarney Castle Rock of Cashel - Stayed in B&B in Cashel (2 nights) Waterford Tramore - Stayed in B&B here (1 night) Dublin - Stayed in Guesthouse here (3 nights)
Have fun! Ireland is amazing!

We did a two week trip to Ireland right after we were married. Flew in and out of Shannon. It was 10 years ago so my memory is a little spotty.
Day1- Dromoland Castle. gorgeous old castle, and only a few miles from Shannon airport. Day 2-3 Dingle-stayed in a B&B. Beautiful little seaside town. Day 4-Kilkenny. Day 5-6 Dublin. Day 7 stayed with family outside Dublin. Day 8 stayed with family in Galway. Day 9-11 wedding in Galway(stayed in Galway city) Day 12-13 Clifden (in Connemara) Loved it here!!
It was so much fun. We travelled with one other couple and rented a car. We met up with other friends for a wedding. Dh spent lots of time in Ireland growing up and has a lot of family there so was pretty familiar. But everyone was so friendly! And I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. I wasn't really a fan of Dublin. Too congested. I much preferred the smaller towns. It really was one of my favorite trips ever!

Re: IRELAND
Some highlights
Giants Causeway Wicklow Kilarney in Kerry Bunratty Castle, Cliffs of Moher and the burren in Clare Galway
There are so many things and places to see you won't go wrong
If you want to see Dublin I would fly into Shannon and tour around from there and fly home from Dublin. Shannon is a much more pleasant airport and you get the feeling of the Irish Countryside

Re: IRELAND
We went in 2013 and also loved it! We rented a car which I didn't love, dh drove and i was white knuckled the whole time. Very scary roads, tiny roads with elderlies walking and biking, huge tour buses barreling down on you. If we go again we will certainly take a tour bus but we had such a huge itinerary we wanted to see everything and pretty much did.
Flew into Dublin on AerLingus. Immediately rented a car and drove over to Donegal. Next day drove to Giants Causeway and also walked over the Carrick a rede bridge.
Drove counterclockwise all the way back to Dublin, did the ring of kerry, doolin, Killarney, Cork, Sligo, Ardmore, Glendalough and then Dublin.
If you are into historic/ancient sites, recommend Ardmore (St. Declan's) and Glendalough (St. Kevin's Monastery)and Kenmare (ancient ring of stones from the Bronze age). Glendalough is absolutely like a magic place, indescribable.
I also stalked Bono's house but ended up on a dead end in someone's yard.
