DH and I are going later this year...who has been there? This is my dream trip; I've wanted to see the motherland since I was a kid and after the longest, hardest year of our lives we're going!!! 
I have a few books about it, but just wondering what your must-sees are...also, places to stay!

I'm from there. I would go to the west Co Clare. There are some stunning areas. The cliffs of Moher are one of my favorite places. There is tons to do and see in Clare. I love Dublin also. We went to Kilmainham Goal (Jail), there is ton of history and stories there. Also the Guinness factory is fun. It has a bar at the top that you can see 360 degrees around. If its nice out you can see for miles. Galway City also a favorite to walk around and has one nice out door places to eat.
What part are you going to? My sister went up North to the Giants Causeway & the photos she sent me are stunning. I want to go up there on one of my visits home. Its on my bucket list.

In Dublin eat at the elephant and castle, best wings of your life! And definitely go to The Oliver St John Gagarty, it was the best bar we went to the whole trip. Guinness store house (free pint at the end) and Jameson distillery. The hop on/hop off busses are great too. You get to see a lot in one day. I'm going again in November and talking about all this is making me really excited lol you're going to love it

I've been a few times. It really is the most spectacular place. DH and I went together a few months after we started dating and after that trip I knew we would get married.
We rented a car and drove from the west coast (Galway) to Dublin. Over 900 miles in about 8 days, staying at B&Bs except in Dublin where we stayed in a Guesthouse (like a B&B but larger).
My recs are:
Ring of Kerry - Dingle Peninsula
Cliffs of Moher
Rock of Cashel
Bunratty Castle
Blarney Castle - to kiss the Blarney stone!
In Dublin:
Guinness Storehouse
Kilmainham Gaol
Trinity College (Book of Kells)
Grafton Street
Temple Bar
Have fun planning! It's such a great trip!
ETA: We went in October and happened to be in Dublin during their annual Theatre Festival. So if you'll be there during that time you can get some great deal on shows.

We went in 2011 and it was the trip of a lifetime! I booked and planned the whole thing. I looked at tours to see what cities they visit and went from there. I have family there so we stayed with them and in b&bs. We flew into Shannon and rented a car. We drove from Shannon to Galway and then down to cliffs of Moher. From there stayed 2 nights in Dingle, 1 in Killarney, 1 in kinsale, 1 in Kilkenny, 2 in Wicklow/Dublin with family and then spent 5 nights with my cousin in my hometown. From there we took a day trip to Belfast. We flew home from Dublin. We rented a stick shift car which DH forgot how to drive so the beginning of the trip was a bit bumpy to say the least!! But it was all part of the adventure! Please fm me if you have any questions. I would be more than happy to help you!

DH's family lives in Co Clare and it's beautiful! Visit Doolin - wonderful views, great people, fun little spots to pop in/out of.
My family is from Kerry and when we go we fly into Dublin, pick up a rental car, and stay at B&Bs just north of the city and take the train into Dublin for the day to see the sights/visit family. Then we drive down to Glandalough (sp) and then across the country - yes you can cross their country in a day! Be careful driving the ring of Kerry because the tour buses are giant - we then fly home through Shannon.

My sister lives in Ennistymon which is between LaHinch and Doolin I believe. I have family in Kerry also.

All the places above mentioned.
Also the Wicklow mountains are beautiful
Anything on the west coast of Clare
Galway is a great city as well.
You really can't go wrong wherever you go you will see beautful scenery and get a good vibe.

Went to Ireland last year, one of my favorite trips. Magic. Went to Glendalough, omg. Went there after reading 'Dublin' by Rutherfurd.
Highly suggest reading that and the sequel Ireland:Awakening before going. Your tour will write itself

As of now, we're looking at two/three days in Dublin, then Galway, the Cliffs of Moher, and the Aran Islands (Martin McDonagh is one of my favorite playwrights...absolutely a dream to see the settings of his plays!)
There are really so many sights to see; we have a unique opportunity though where we could do Ireland for five days and take a quick flight to Amsterdam to visit with some friends that live there...much as I would LOVE to spend more time in Ireland, I'm leaning toward that.
It just means that I'll have to go back to Ireland again...rough life! LOL!
