Iphone question?
I just got a notification for an update to the software. I've never updated it before bc I know a few people who lost everything.
So normally you'd back up your phone before you do the software update.
How exactly do you back up your phone? I put pictures on my computer and back up my contacts. What else is there to do? I screen shot my screens so I know what apps to redownload. Is there an easier way.
I don't use icloud (I don't think)
Is there an iphone for dummies guide?

Re: Iphone question?
Your iPhone should back up to the cloud automatically whenever it's charging and connected to Wi-Fi.
You can manually do this by being connected to Wi-Fi then going to Settings- iCloud- Backup- then "Back Up Now".
ETA: Up to a certain storage amount on iCloud is free so it just makes sense to use it. It backs up everything from e-mails to contacts to games and apps, etc.

Re: Iphone question?
the problem I have with the icloud the free portion is not enough space for half my stuff. I recommend doing a backup on your computer if you can. though the update should really not wipe your phone clean but if it does restoring from the backup is quick and easy .

I do pay extra for the extra space, but I only recently had to do that. It's $1.99 a month and includes my iPhone, iPad, and my DH's iPhone so it's definitely worth it to me. We don't really have a home computer that we use so it's not convenient to back up to a computer for us.
ETA: But agreed, the update should not wipe your phone. I've never had that problem before.
