introduing nuts - almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts

When did your ped give you okay? How did you do it?
Do you do the 3-4 day rule for each nut type?

I want to have nuts in the 1st birthday cake, but I'm nervous now, maybe make them big enough to scoop out for DS? Instead of crushed and baked into the cake?

I know that we cannot because I have a milk allergy, so it is different for my DD, but there are plenty of other moms on the board that give their DC nuts before one. I would just pick one nut and introduce it, chopped finely or in butter form (almond butter, peanut butter) every three days.

we didn't do the 3-day rule.

we introduced peanuts first (peanut-butter), then hazlenuts (nutella) and walnuts (in cookies).

we're still going because we just haven't had the opportunity to introduce that many yet.

ETA: I definitely wouldn't want a birthday party to be the first time trying nuts... god forbid there is a reaction, KWIM

exactly, that's why I'm thinking of introducing it a couple of weeks before planning the cake - which would be at 11m..

we eat tons of nuts, our families eat tons of nuts, nuts is a huge part of desert in our culture and I can't imagine his life in this family with a nut allergy it will be cruel life Chat Icon

If you want to know which nuts he has a problem with then you need the 3 day rule - otherwise you won't know if he has a problem which one is the problem.

I honestly wouldn't put nuts into his cake not for allergy reasons but b.c they are a huge choking hazard. My ped says not to give nuts until closer to 4 or 5 b.c they are a choking hazard not for allergy reasons (he is fine with it in foods before that age- as oils etc). If you want to use them - why not use an oil which wouldn't be a chocking issue - or crush them so that they are very fine.
