Introduction... kinda long
Hi everyone,
I have been lurking around this site for a little while but finally got up the courage to post. I am so inspired by all the women on this site! And so glad to see all the great news from this week :)
I am 29 (hubby is 32) and I have kind of a complicated history. When I was in college I had two extensive abdominal surgeries because of inflammatory bowel disease. My left tube and ovary were both removed due to infection/inflammation. Thank goodness ever since then I've been feeling great and have had NO health issues (knock on wood..) When my husband and i started TTC, nothing happened for the first six months... my obgyn then sent me for an HSG, which showed that my only remaining tube was a hydrosalpinx, presumably from scar tissue or adhesions after my surgeries. She referred me to a fertility specialist and said I'd need IVF. Of course then I went on the internet and started reading all the studies and stories about the detrimental effects of having a hydro during IVF treatment. I started freaking out a bit.
At my consult with the RE, he seemed pretty hesitant about removing the tube before proceeding. He is concerned about my health and about doing any more abdominal surgery unless it's absolutely necessary. Also, he said I can't have a laparoscopy because of my history and I'd need a laparotomy instead, which is much more invasive and the recovery time is much longer. He feels that I have very good chances despite having the hydro there because age is on my side. I really like and respect him and he comes highly recommended so I decided go with his plan. I'm also definitely nervous to have more surgery because of the risk of complications.
So fast forward a few months- I did a fresh cycle in late June/early July. I got 8 eggs from my one ovary, 5 fertilized, and all made it to day 3 at excellent quality. We decided to implant two embryos and we froze the other 3. He said everything went perfectly and I was feeling really optimistic... but then it was BFN We met with the RE after the cycle and he was very surprised it didn't work and recommended proceeding with a FET next. And if that goes perfectly too and I get another BFN, we can discuss doing a salpingectomy or tube clipping.
Right now I'm actually in the middle of my FET cycle and having my embryo transfer next Friday. Everything looks good so far, but I just can't get the hydro out of my head. I'm trying to be optimistic about this cycle but it's so hard! Work has been crazy too, so my stress level is through the roof right now!!
Sorry about the long post! Hope everyone stays safe in the storm...
