Introducing Meats Question
DD is now 9 months old and I CANNOT get this kid to eat any kind of meat!!
I've been using the Earth's Best ones, mixing it in with some more veggie to help with the flavor (for example, if its chicken and sweet potatoes, I'll add more sweet potatoes). But she still wont eat it.
Does anyone have any recommendations on ways (or other brands) to get her to eat them?? I get one spoonful in and then she closes her mouth and refuses to take another bite!
TIA!

Re: Introducing Meats Question
Is it the taste, or the consistency do you think?
I know that some of the Earth's Best chickens are thicker than the veggies and fruits. DS ate them as they were, but we went to regular meats pretty quickly.
What if you put the jar in the blender/bullet/food processor, and added formula or Breast milk or water to it with some more of the veggies? Make it a thinner puree.
ETA: I just noticed that your DD was 9 months...maybe try actual pieces of meat that you would eat...of course with the okay of your pediatrician...Ds was on all table food by 9 months, just an idea if she doesn't really like it at all....

Not to hijack- but can they eat real pieces at 9 months? I would be so scared of choking...

some can, some cannot. my son cannot. he chokes on anything solid (or even thick consistency) at 8+ months.
depends on the child.

Thanks! Yeah I'd be too nervous. They don't have many - if any- teeth at that age- I can't imagine giving her pieces of chicken or anything...

they dont need teeth, they mash with their gums. Some kids are solely on table food by 10-12 months with 2-4 (if any) teeth. Its about learning curve. Some just cannot move food around their mouths well enough, some do not "know" to mash with their gums and swollowing is still being developed.

Re: Introducing Meats Question
my ped told us to start with the meats at 6 months. i was like ummm...the purred ones are disgusting. She told us to try little pieces of meat that she could gum. like chicken or turkey.

Re: Introducing Meats Question
I think it's both a taste and consistency thing with her. After thinking about it, she kinda gagged on her oatmeal this morning (it wasnt as liquidy as it normally is).
I will try blending it a bit more with water and veggies.
Our Ped didnt want her on table food just yet. He said to start with the stage 3 at 10 mos (even though stage 3 says 9 mos).
I dont think she could handle it anyway...she JUST started being OK with whole cheerios! Now she cant get enough of them!!!

Re: Introducing Meats Question
You can try using real chicken. Not the chicken in the jar. Try a boneless skinless chicken breast and grill it in apple juice on top of the oven. This will allow it to soak up some of the sweetness. Cut it up in pieces. Then puree it w/some apple juice.

Re: Introducing Meats Question
Try fresh chicken. Just bake it in the oven and then purree it in a food processor or magic bullet. You can mix it with a fresh purreed veggie or jarred veggie! I've been doing this and have been able to get a really fine consistency when I use the magic bullet. Good luck!

Re: Introducing Meats Question
I tried a million different ways, DS only took it in pieces for a long time.
But after a lot of trial and error, I would purree the meat with potato! Regular white starchy potato, it totally changed the texture and they love it.
DS gobbles up anything pureed with potato.
