Intralipids infusion

Hi ladies,

I guess I'm just looking for an outlet, but also hoping anyone can share similar experiences and success stories!

I am currently 16.5 weeks pregnant with my second DC and am being seen by Dr. Kofinas (been going to him with DS as well). I have Factor v leiden thrombophilia, which means I'm very prone to blood clots. This was diagnosed even before conceiving DS so I knew what I was up against this time around. Only with DS, I guess it never flared up as much as it is right now...
I started my treatment with one daily shot of Lovenox but that turned out to not be enough since my uterine arteries are not allowing enough bloodflow to the placenta. Right now the baby and placenta are looking great, but Dr. basically said that if this continues the baby is at a very high risk of being a preemie because at one point, she will just not have enough nourishment to continue growing Chat Icon So h increased the shots to twice daily and upped the dose on one of the injections. Aside from this I also tested positive for increased NK cell activity, which are cells that identify the baby as an intruder and try to stop it from growing!

So the best treatment for this are the Intralipids infusions, which are basically infusions of Soy, fat and other nourishments that my body is lacking and there is a very high success rate, which is very encouraging!! A nurse will come to my house to administer this twice monthly for about 10 weeks. So aside from your prayers and support, I also want to ask if anyone has gone through anything similar? I saw some posts on the infertility board about these infusions but not a lot on the pregnancy board... Any success stories? General feedback? Was this covered by your insurance?

Thanks for reading this far and you can FM me if you don't feel comfortable sharing out in the open forum Chat Icon

Re: Intralipids infusion

I had to do this with my first pregnancy. The same thing, a nurse came to my house and administered it. I will say that it takes a while anywhere from 2 hours and longer, so it is quite boring. But anything I had to do to keep my LO inside me was what I did.

I only had it once a month for 4 months, but I suppose everyones diagnosis is different. Plus I never had any side effects from it.

Please feel free to FM me if you have any questions.

Good luck!!!

Ive had numerous ones. They are totally fine, you dont feel anything and my twins are almost 1! Empire covered it, and I'm currently fighting GHI to cover it too since I switched ins in the middle of treatment.

Re: Intralipids infusion

Thank you so much girls! I'm definitely feeling much more positive about this than I did this morning! They called to set up the first infusion and we super nice and efficient. Looks like it's fully covered by my insurance aside from my standard deductible and co-payment, which I'm thrilled about since I was afraid BCBS will screw me over...

Please keep the positive stories coming if you have them, you have no idea the impact it has made over the last few hours!!!
