Intralipids Cost/Insurance Coverage
Hi Girls,
My insurance co. is based on Empire's plan, and I was just told by my insurance that the intralipids aren't covered since it's considered experimental, and the woman from my insurance said that she doesn't think that any insurance companies cover it.
HELP?!

Re: Intralipids Cost/Insurance Coverage
2 years ago the medicine was $75 and the nurse to administer the infusion was $300.
eta When I had a private BCBS plan, they covered it and when I switched over to GHI, they didnt cover it (but fought hard for the to pay for it due to continuation of coverage).

we had to pay out of pocket for the meds $75 each time but the actual procedure was always covered by insurance.

Re: Intralipids Cost/Insurance Coverage
I have Cigna and they cover it subject to my coinsurance. The total with the medicine and the homecare nurse is about $150.

I have GHI and the medication isn't covered. I pay $75 each time I order it. I order from Krupners and do them in office so its $75 plus a $20 copay.

Which doctor are you with?
I was told today the discounted rate is like $450 per infusion?!

I go to SIRM in NYC. Maybe they just put it in as a regular office visit since its in office. I know other REs have a nurse come to your home. I just got an infusion last week. I have one more left and haven't had any issues.

Re: Intralipids Cost/Insurance Coverage
I have Empire and it was completely covered, but I think the doctor billed it as an in office procedure not specifically intralipids, but my insurance covered the intralipids themselves, but wouldn't cover transfusions. so confusing.

Re: Intralipids Cost/Insurance Coverage
Thank you all.
Walgreens charges $450! Finding out about Coram Healthcare...
I'm so disappointed my insurance doesn't cover this!
I'm trying to find out from Kofinas' office if I can order the intralipids through Krupners and do them in the office... then it would be $75... huge difference...
