Interviewing Peds?
How does this work? Do you go in or just call? What questions did you ask? Did it cost anything to interview them?

Re: Interviewing Peds?
We called and made an appointment. It was free.
We asked them things like: 1. do you have a sick room/well room for the waiting areas 2. What are your hours on holidays? 3. What is the emergency policy? 4. What is your view on the vaccination schedule and delaying vaccnations 5. Do you support breastfeeding mothers 6. Do you have a lactation consultant on staff
Things like that!

Re: Interviewing Peds?
Our ped has times they do interviews. They bring you in for a tour you can ask any questions etc.
I didn't go in to do this -- because you know I am famliliar with the practice etc. But that's what they said they do. And no it wasn't going to cost money to interview them.

Re: Interviewing Peds?
I would call first b/c both peds we looked at had specific times when they did interviews. It was more like a new parent orientation, so they had several families at once and gave a presentation and then opened it up to questions.
It did not cost anything.

Interviewing Peds?
Called and made an appointment with her. However her practice has since expanded to include 2 other doctors and staff and she has "Meet the Doctors" sessions sporadically throughout the month. I recommend looking at babycenter.com for questions to ask the pediatrician. I really had no clue.

Interviewing Peds?
I asked my OB for referrals, then asked local friends/family members. Then I cross referenced the list with my health insurance list. I called 2 of the practices, spoke to the front desk girls and just asked about the office hours, how many doctors were in the practice, how scheduling works and whether or not they come to the hospital when the baby is born. I'm sure there's probably alot of other more important questions to ask, but if after the first few visits I'm not happy we can always switch.

This is what I did. I felt like you weren't going to really decide if you liked them til they were treating the baby and you can always change.

This is what I'm doing... U don't know how a doc really is until u go on a real appt with baby... Same goes with ourselves... We don't shop around for docs... We go to them and then decide if we had a good experience or not... If we don't like a certain doc or have a bad experience, we look into another practice.

Interviewing Peds?
I could never make the times they allotted for the interviews, so I just called and asked some questions like about delayed immunizations and stuff. I figured, if they came were covered by the hospital I was delivering at and seemed ok, if I didn't like them I could switch. Fortunately I liked them immediately, so it hasn't been an issue

Re: Interviewing Peds?
Question, once you decide on a ped do you have to tell them? Or will they just find out once the hospital calls them? (I know the doc I want to use is accepting new patients).

This. You aren't married to them. If they stink, you can change.

I called them and they told me to just have someone call them once I delivery the baby and he would meet me at the hospital to see my LO.

In my case the hospital asked if we had a ped selected (he had to be affiliated with them) and I gave his name and they called him. He came the next day to see DD.
