how much bleeding is normal after an internal?
I am 38 weeks today and just had one at about 8:30am.
TMI warning - i got to work, used the bathroom and noticed a tiny bit of pink blood when i wiped. thought nothing of it. an hour later i used it again and had bright red blood in my undies (didnt have on a liner or pad bc no one warned me i may bleed). I put on a very thin panty liner and just checked it (30 mins later) and it is almost full with red blood.
do i call the dr? wait longer?

this never happened with DD - i had 3 internals and never a spot of blood

Re: internals and bleeding

I'd call. I'm a FTM but everything I've read says blood at that point could mean you're going into labor. Can't hurt to double check.

I only had 1 internal around 36 weeks (DS was born at 37w3d) I would call. You could be in labor. That's one of the signs i knew...woke up at 37w and was spotting and it became more and more.

internals and bleeding

My first internal I had light spotting - mostly brown, old blood. After my second internal, no spotting. At my third internal, they stripped my membranes and I had a decent amount of bleeding, but not enough to soak a pad.

I would call the doctor.

thanks for the replies - i meant to update but have been swamped at work
after i posted this i changed my liner and went to an hour long meeting Chat Icon came out and there was practically no blood so i never ended up calling
havent had any bleeding since and the baby is moving normally, so hopefully it was just from the exam

At 36 weeks, they wouldn't do it. For most, stripping membranes is uncomfortable. For me, I felt no pain.

Oh I see you are 38 weeks then maybe that's what he did. Technically they can do it without permission - weird I know. I went into labor less than 24 hours later. I was 4 cm dilated and 60 or 70 % effaced.

Chat Icon i sure hope she didnt do it! i would be surprised if she did bc she never did with DD1 who was 8 days late (although at every appt i had with her i was not at all dilated or effaced). this time she told me i was 1.5cm...but it still seems like it would be too soon to do.

i guess ill wait and see

Since you are not that far along, I doubt they did it.
