Insurance Nightmare

Hey ladies, I was a pretty frequent poster in 2012 with my first and I'm currently due with #2 thend of March...long story short, we had to switch insurance and go through the exchange through my employer (our prior provider no longer provides ins to small comps and we had no choice) The issue is my ob accepts my new insurance but the only hospital he's affiliated with does not, in fact I found out that Stony Brook is not accepting ANY insurance purchased through the exchange because their reimbursement doesn't pay enough!!

I have been in touch with my insurance and drs office I am currently waiting on a return call from insurance, they mentioned getting a GAP form to make hospital in network since I'm 30wks has anyone encountered this issue recently?? My ob is Reavis and ins is Health Republic of NY. Thanks!!

You could look into getting a supplemental policy - the only issue with that though is that some require a waiting period related to maternity.

I would def question the SB not accepting the insurance. SB is a state hospital and they get state funds to operate and the insurance is through a state run exchange.....I would be on the phone to the gov asap.

This exactly, sorry to crash, but I've been dealing with a lot with regards to the exchange programs. Stony Brook, in fact, had organized and held a few seminars for medical staff in suffolk county regarding the exchange a few months ago...

One other thing that I would recommend looking at with regards to this insurance is your deductible. A lot of people are unaware what this means for them, and depending on the level you either have a $0, $1K, $2K, up to $6500 deductible annually.

FM if you want to pick my brain!

Ty ladies! I emailed a senator and after a three day battle my new insurance is drafting a letter stating they will cover services up to and after delivery at Stony Brook...I will have to see this letter myself before I get excited, I still am unsure what to do. This is all so stressful! Thank you again!!
