Insurance Codes?
My doctor wants me to have the Maternit21 test done on Wednesday at my appointment.
I know insurance doesn't cover it 100% and I'm having difficulty finding out how to find out how much out of pocket I will have to pay.
My doctors office told me that they can't give the test code out, that I'd have to call the lab for it to see how they put it through. (LabCorp) I've called several times and have had NO luck talking to a human.
Has anyone with Empire (government) had this test done? If so, would you mind sharing the OOP expense?

Insurance Codes?
Crashing - I wouldn't do any tests that aren't 100% covered (where I'd be paying more than just the copay) until I knew what my responsibility was. I'd keep calling and demand to know what your out of pocket expense is going to be, and make it clear that you will not sign any financial waivers or forms until you are informed of your responsibility, and not just as a percentage, that you want to know a number.

I don't know the codes but I had to pay about $230 out of pocket for it.

I agree with this.
We had a deductible plan. We had a sonogram done at 3 places (under the care of a RE and then one at the hospital and one at my new ObGyn). Our OOP expense for the RE and Obgyn one was $30. The one at the hospital was $400+. They literally used the same imaging machine as the other places and they did not even print us out a picture. It took us weeks to fight the cost and eventually got a a 20% discount. Before you have anything done, get a statement in writing saying how much you will be responsible for.

Re: Insurance Codes?
I have empire and called and it wasn't covered at all. I also wasn't 35 yet and didn't have an elevated risk. It would have been 250 dollars (I called the Maternit 21 number).

Insurance Codes?
Call your insurance company they should be able to give you the most accurate information on your coverage even without the code. The downside of not having the code is it may take them some time to look it up.

I declined the test because they didn't cover it. Our insurance considers Sequenom (the lab that does the test) out of network. So they said that if you've met your out of network deductible it will cost around $250 but if you haven't you need to pay in full for the test. You have to call that lab to get the actual cost but for me knowing $250 was the minimum id have to pay was too much so I declined. I'm also 29 and in great health so I didn't find it medically necessary.
