Insulin resistance
(just as a warning I will probably be posting a bunch of questions in the coming weeks! )
Can someone explain a little about IR? Is it basically a given that people with IR will have weight issues? Is this something that metformin can eliminate?
I found out I have IR and am an average weight, but I am recently off the pill so I am wondering if weight may become a factor and if Metformin will counteract it.
TIA!!

Re: Insulin resistance
I was diagnosed with IR around the time we were TTC my daughter, pretty much the same time my PCOS was confirmed. I was told that IR is basically pre-diabetes, and that it's very much reversible with diet and medication. I don't *think* it's a given that IR people will have weight issues--from my understanding of it, it just seems that the two go hand-in-hand pretty often. BUT, on the same token, I know quite a few ladies with PCOS (my sister is one) who are of average weight and are also IR.
I have been on Metformin for almost 2 years. Any time my blood sugar has been tested (before my c-section and before my back surgery, namely), it has always been normal, and that's on an empty stomach AND on a full stomach. I fully believe that it's making a huge difference. AND, I also believe it's what kept me from going over the edge and having gestational diabetes when I was pregnant last time.
Lots of luck to you!
