Infant w/ cough

DD has had a cold for about a week but since yesterday she has been coughing. Sometimes she coughs so much that she throws up watever she last ate. Is there anything we can do for them? I feel so bad. Going to see the Ped in the morning but I was curious to see if anyone knows of any remedies for coughs? She is 9m.

I'm going through this now and there's nothing we can give them, it must needs to run its course.

We went through the same thing at about 8 months, and now DD has had another cough for almost 2 weeks now. It's so frustrating! Just use a cool mist humidifier, Vicks Baby Rub on her chest and feet at night, and give her steam baths.

My pediatrician gave DD a prescription for Bromfed, because she keeps getting coughs. Every time I try giving it to her, she throws up, so I stopped bothering. The PA at the pediatrician's office, also suggested Benadryl at night to dry her out, but this also makes her gag and throw up!

Just let it run its course and suck boogers. The drip is causing the cough.

When they are a bit older you can give benadryl to dry the drip up but not at that age.
For now, cool mist vaporizer, nasal saline, and booger sucking!

thanks ladies. doc said its just a cold and needs to run it course. her chest and ears are fine, even though her cough sounds horrendous. she said the cough always sounds worse than what it really is. the ped said shes puking because babies dont know how to spit out the mucous so they swallow it and gag on it. poor things. im using the vaporizer with vicks in it. she said f i really wanted to i could give benadryl at night if she wasnt sleeping, but shes sleeping the same as she always does pretty much. if she was consistently coughing w/ runny nose for 2 weeks straight then they would give antibiotics.

You should ask your peds for a nebulizer and saline to put in. My dd had a very bad chest cold and was given nebulizer with rx meds and saline. If cough is that bad you should call your peds. My dd started off with a cold and within a few days had to bring her back because she developed a bad cough. Which turned out to be a very bad chest cold. The nebulizer was huge in breaking it up and getting it out. Also cleaned her nose out twice a day

Dd recently had a cough (she's also too young for cough syrup) I found this cough syrup that's all natural (has honey and all others natural things- no medicine) it was a lifesaver. It's ok for kids 1 year and older side there is honey in it.
