Infant Pooping Overnight?
I hope this doesn't sound too dumb. DS is 8m old. 4 out of the last 5 nights he has pooped in the middle of the night. He hasn't done that since he was a newborn and even then it wasn't very often. Of course I don't have a problem getting up and changing him when it happens. It is what it is. But he is wide awake after the diaper change and it's really starting to affect his sleep and his mood. He will be up for at least an hour afterwards, once it was 3 hours. Then this morning he woke up at 4am because he pooped and just never went back to sleep.
I know I obviously can't control when he poops but I'm starting to wonder if the motrin I've been giving him for teething at bed time is upsetting his stomach? The one night he didn't poop was the one night I didn't give it to him. Can that happen or is this just a coincidence? He never had this problem with the motrin before but he hasn't had it in about 2 months. And my problem is, he definitely feels much better with the teething pain after I give him the motrin. So should I stop giving it to him? I'm not sure which way will help the poor guy sleep some more and I'm kind of at a loss. Any advice?

Infant Pooping Overnight?
Both of my kids went through overnight pooping phases and then one day it just stopped. Hoping it is just a phase for him! I would continue with the motrin if it is helping the teething pain. Is the poop looser than normal? I found that my DD sometimes had looser ones when she was teething. Maybe that is contributing to the overnight pooping problem?

His poops are definitely loose. At first I was thinking teething was causing it but I've been second guessing myself with the motrin. Hopefully this stops soon so the poor guy can get some rest. Thanks for responding!

oh i remember those nights.. Hubby and I became Ninjas on changing diapers. We kept the lights off, worked in the dark with a night light glow, warmed the wipes and became VERY fast at the change the diaper part, limiting the amount of 'breeze' on the freshly wiped butt.
Best of Luck to you

Re: Infant Pooping Overnight?
Motrin might be making him go, maybe try Tylenol instead, it's more gentle on baby's tummy. Also I would try and do the changing as fast as possible, no cold wipes , keep the room dark . All you can really di is just wait, DD went through this phase too and I still remember, it went on for about 3 months

Maybe try Tylenol instead to see if that helps. I think teething itself can cause loose stools though bc they have so much extra saliva (think I read that somewhere reputable). DD is 8 months and actually pooped twice recently, once as I was putting her down and once overnight. Not sure when she went the second time bc I don't even think to check her anymore. Weird since she hasn't done it since she was a newborn either. I thought maybe it was a new food she ate but who knows.

Thanks everyone! I guess I'll try Tylenol and see what happens. Otherwise, I guess I'll have to work on my ninja skills

Re: Infant Pooping Overnight?
We change our girls in a dimly lit room. Probably harder with an 8 m old. I do it more to not wake DH since the PNP changer is in there. Maybe he wont wake as much if its dim?
