My God, we aren't safe anywhere!!!
LONG ISLAND BRIEFS: ATTEMPTED BABY ABDUCTION BILL MASON October 13, 2007
ATTEMPTED BABY ABDUCTION. A 6-week-old baby was nearly abducted from a Westbury supermarket Friday when the infant's mother turned her back momentarily while shopping, police said. The child was in the mother's shopping cart at the C Town Supermarket, 306 Post Ave., when the mother went to exam fruit, police said. An unknown woman grabbed the cart and started running off with the baby inside, police said. The mother screamed and the woman left the cart at the end of the next aisle, police said, and fled. Re: Infant nearly abducted in Westbury
I heard about this this morning.
They described the suspect as a 5' tall, caucasian woman, approx 40 years old.
So frightening
This is why I was insistant on showing DH a certain way to get the DC's in and out of the car from the double stroller. When putting the first one back in I was so worried about the second still in the stroller, I twist my foot through the opening where the footrest is so if anyone went to grab the stroller, my foot's coming with them.
You can't divert your eyes for one second.

How that mom didn't catch & completely pummel the woman is beyond me.
The sad thing is that I know someone (not my best friend) who was in so much pain over IF that she would say things about stealing a baby, followed up by the "of course, I would never do that"

Re: Infant nearly abducted in Westbury
I just read that in the paper. It's my biggest fear while shopping, especially since I have 2 to keep my eye on and my DS is usually walking next to me.

Oh my goodness
that woman would not have walked out of that supermarket in one piece.
I guess the mom was so hysterical over her baby

Re: Infant nearly abducted in Westbury
Holy cow thats near me.. Dh and i were just discussing things like this.. my dd is 3 weeks old today, and i told him i want to get the devise that hooks up to the child and attaches to me, even if shes in the cart, or babyseat, i want her connected to me at same time.. that way if someone even came close to my dd i would feel it..
why does this world have to have sick people in it...

Re: Infant nearly abducted in Westbury
OMG. I'm glad she didn't get very far.
Kidnapping has been one of my biggest fears. I always have one hand on the stroller. My IL's were visiting a couple of weeks ago. Before I left work the first day they were alone with DD, I told them "don't take your eyes off her for a second". MIL was kinda offended but it made me feel better to say it before they took her out.

Re: Infant nearly abducted in Westbury
The LAST thing I'd be thinking about is catching/beating up the woman. She was probably so relieved that her baby was safe that all she could think to do was hold her.
That poor mommy- I would have fallen aprt watching someone try to steal my DD. Thank God the baby is safe.
