Infant mommies, meat question

when did you start your child on meats?

I refuse to give him jarred meats (they make me Chat Icon ) so what do I do, should I puree some meat that I make or wait a bit and let him feed himself some finely chopped meats?

what did you do?

9 1/2 months.

I shredded up some of our thanksgiving turkey added some gravy and she LOVED it.

I never did the pureed meats. Went right to the real thing.

I didn't give DS meat until he could eat table food. The idea of jarred/pureed meat grossed me out.

7 months jarred. there are some jarred ones that are mixed with fruit and/or veggies that DD really likes. never tried just the plain ones... even the ped. recommended getting the ones that are mixed saying the just meat ones are "vile."

Re: Infant mommies, meat question

Nolan started with chicken at around 8 months. I make his food so I made a chicken puree from a recipe book I have.

It's pretty much sautee 3 tbsp chopped onion in a little oil until soft. Add 1/4 pound cubed boneless chicken breast and cook until browned. Add 1 peeled, chopped sweet potato with a cup of non salted chicken or vegetable stock (I made my own) or you could use water. Cover and simmer for about 12 minutes until potatoes are tender. Puree in a blender or food processor with 6 peeled seedless grapes (or I've added a couple tablespoons of homemade apple sauce). Good in the fridge for 3 days and can be frozen too.

When I serve it, I usually add some more applesauce.

Re: Infant mommies, meat question

I refused to give the meats in bottles also!

He actually hated all jarred food in the very beginning so after a month of trying the fruits and veggies...I just went with the "real stuff" table food at 7 mo -
The chicken was cut up into pea size shapes
