Infant Massage Class. Worth it?

I have an opportunity to take an infant massage class in my area (here in NJ) on Tuesday. I am fairly new to the area so I think, if nothing else, it will be good to meet some other new moms. Curious though...for those of you who have taken an infant massage class - is it worth it?

Also - is 2.5 weeks old too early for my baby and I to benefit from the class?

Re: Infant Massage Class. Worth it?

SO worth it. I took it very early and it helped with his tummy issues (I could amost make him poop on cue). He gets a massage almost every day and loves it.

On taking it so young...I was alone so the teaching was very flexible. My DS wasn't very patient so a lot of it was cut short but I still learned. You might want to go solo or with a second person to handle DC depending on your DC's mood.

I started taking Noah to baby massage at 6 weeks. It was great, he didn't like the massage too much, but I met a lot of new mothers in my area and we still all hang out every week. So I would say wait for another sort of 4 weeks and get out there!! Massage that baby!

I'm sure it would be worth it...and as a massage therapist I can tell you it is NEVER too early to start massaging your baby...The earlier the BETTER!!! Go for it!Chat Icon

Re: Infant Massage Class. Worth it?

Since I teach infant massage classes to parents/caregivers myself (I am a massage therapist also), I can tell you how beneficial it is.

Among the benefits

Bonding
Helps with neurological development
Digestion (gas, colic)
Etc...

I teach the class in several sessions so I don't know how a one class is in your case. It's`still worse checking into it.

FM if you want more details. I had a class with a few moms here. They could tell you what they got out of it.

ETA: You can start massageas early as 3 weeks. I will start soon with DS.
