hi all - what infant car seat do you/did you have? I was all set on the Chicco Keyfit 30, but then saw the Cybex with the load leg and am intrigued (though we are getting a new car so we need to check if the load leg would work with the bump in the middle).
Also, where do you have the car seat? In the middle or on one of the sides?

We have the Chicco. In our cars, the safest spot was the passenger side.

Ditto. DH is too tall to have it behind the driver side.

We have the Chicco Keyfit 30 as well. Safest in our car is the passenger side. We have a 2010 Ford Escape and the middle spot is not made for a car seat.
Where the car seat is the safest depends on the car model; check your owner's manual and it should say in there where to put an infant seat. Honestly, most people put it in the middle and it's not the safest spot of it's not installed correctly. It needs to sit flat and have it's own seat belt/latch area. Most people "share" latch spots and that is completely incorrect.
I'll never forget bringing my son home from the hospital and being lectured by the nurse how we had our seat in the wrong spot and it should be in the middle. I shut her up quickly by telling her I had it installed by certified technicians who expressly told me that passenger side was best and that the middle was unsafest in MY car.

Thank you! I didn't realize that it could depend on car to car. I'll definitely look at the owners manual.

Uppa baby mesa, middle. It is absolutely possible to safely install a car seat in the middle. You need to use the seatbelt, not latch, unless your car manufacturer allows the middle latch to be used.
We now have convertible seats installed in the middle position in a Ford Explorer and Acura TL. They were professionally installed by a certified tech using the seat belt. They don't move a millimeter in either direction.

Graco snugride. The new snuglock looks awesome. I loved that the graco infant seat was one of the lightest on the market, not expensive, and highly recommended. I put the infant seat on the passenger side.

Britax b safe 35. I have it on my driver side. Our toddler is on the passenger side in a Graco 4 ever. Middle is open. I'm not sure what side is considered safest in my car.
