Increasingly anxious

I have had the benefit of family members watching my ds since I went back to work in April. In september, I will be taking him to an in-home daycare three days a week. I am off the next three weeks and know that ds and I are so lucky to have that time together, but I find myself thinking about leaving him ALL the time. I am becoming increasingly upset about leaving him. I went back to work in April okay, didn't cry at all leaving him with my mom and stepmom...but I am DREADING leaving him with this woman (who obviously I like and trust...its a friend of a friend's mom).Ugh...Chat Icon

Come on. We're a very supportive group here. Just because no one responds doesn't mean that we don't care. You know that.

It's understandable that you're anxious about leaving him with a stranger (well virtually a stranger). I felt your pain.

Re: Increasingly anxious

Listen, I know that I read a lot of posts and don't respond all the time. The "roll eyes" icon was more of a joke. I found it very hard to start posting on here and then to really open up about certain subjects. I didn't want to "bump" my own post to make it seem like "poor me", but I did find it interesting that 56 people read it and not even ONE icon button was posted. I know I have recommended this site to a lot of new mothers, and it was shocking that there were no responses, that's all.

I miss night posts because I'm with Dh and not on the net and I guess when I signed on this morning it was low.

I've never had the opportunity to ever leave Jack with family members since we live far away (not by choice) and I have been really surprised with how great neighbors and friends of friends have been with Jack!!! I hope you feel bad and your mind gets put at ease.
I think sometimes non family members are better because they listen to you better.

Re: Increasingly anxious

I've noticed that I get a lot less responses to things when I post on the weekends, especially on Sundays. People are usually out all day and don't get on LIF. It's definitely a lot harder to leave your child with somebody that isn't family, whether you trust them or not. A very good friend of mine watched Christopher for only a couple of hours and I was anxious the entire time I was gone. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Increasingly anxious

Sometimes you have to bump for the morning crew...I haven't been on because me and Bella were sick so I am sorry I missed this...

I feel your pain. I went back to work in the November when Bella was 9 weeks old. It was hard, but between the holidays, vacay, the transit strike, and DH staying home; my Bella didn't go into daycare until she was over four months old at the end of January. This was hard for me...but it does get easier...enjoy your time off and know that we ARE all here for support....

These ladies are some of the best there are...

I think most us have walked in your shoes. It's not easy to leave your child with someone and trust that they will do the right thing.

I am starting to get anxious too. I am going back in a month when DS will be 4 months.

I even had trouble leaving for 3 hours to go to a bridal shower yesterday.

Thanks to all who responded. I just have this pit in the bottom of my stomach. I have a complete hatred of work right now (not my profession, just the place where I work) so I suspect that its not keeping my interest/keeping me busy to take my mind off ds...

Re: Increasingly anxious

It will be difficult but you will get through it and it will get easier. Try to remember that you are leaving your child with someone who is capable and someone you trust. And think of the smile you will get when you get home!

If you think the job itself is part of the reason you are dreading returning, maybe it's time to consider other options. You have to do what makes you happy (and of course, what will still pay the bills - have to be realistic too). Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Increasingly anxious

I know exactly how you feel! I am in CT all of my family live in LI, so DD will HAVE to go to group daycare in September. I am get sick to my stomach when I think about dropping her off, let alone going back to a job I HATE! Hopefully a couple leads pan out and I can go back a new job, but DD will be about 4.5 months old and I have been home with her since day 1. I know she is in good hands and I am 100% comfy leaving her there, and I try to take comfort knowing I am doing what's best for my family and myself by going back to work.

I wish I had family to take care of her, but we are still working on getting my parents up here!

Try not to think about it, you will wind up sabotaging your precious time home with your DS. Enjoy it! Hug him, go out and try not to think about it until it happens. I know it's hard going back to a job you hate, I know I will have no choice if I don't have another job and I know it will make it much much harder to leave her all day.

I know how you feel. I had my mom watching Claire 5 days a week until she was 12 months old and then I had to start using a group sitter 2 days a week, and MIL one day. I was so upset about it at that time, but now I can honestly say I am so happy things worked out the way they did. DD loves the interaction with other kids, and I find a non-family member listens to you more and it more likly to follow your instructions then a grandparent is.

Dont let this ruin your time now Chat Icon

Chat Icon I can promise that your mind is never going to be off of DS. Chat Icon

Your son just gave you a gift. He brought it to your attention that you don't really like your job and would like a better place to work. Having my kids forced me to put a higher value on my time too.

Go forth & do something you truly love at a place you love.Chat Icon Chat Icon
